Anyone ever look at Lileks' website?

has got to be one of my all time favorite sites- I just love the sheer amount of pictures & other strange crap the guy has amassed, along with his wise ass comments.

Anyway, I just spent a few hours on the site, looking at some crap & wandered onto the comment/blog part of his site- I never really thought of the site as being political, but I figured some on DU may be interested in an entry I read regarding F/911- It's the kitsch-man's response to a MM op-ed from 7-4-4:

Anyway, I'm back to looking at more ads from the 30s & 'regrettable foods'. Still is strange to me that there is something political on the site- I've always associated it with whacked out crap like this:

1. A lot of it is really cool

but when he ventures into politics it's usually from a right-wingnut point of view. Completely turns me off.

5. Lileks is great, but he's a Republican thru and thru

It's kind of interesting trying to watch fairly intelligent conservatives trying to be intellectually scornful of people who oppose Bush's reckless reign. They usually end up doing the tut-tut, don't be so naive about the zillions of terrorists who exist solely to attack us and our hated freedoms schtick. Not terribly original, but when your side can't manage to be consistant, logical, or competent, a cynical cousin of Realpolitik is really all you got left.

6. I actually knew James Lileks about 20 years ago

when he was a journalism student at the University of Minnesota. He had a loopy sense of humor, but he was NOT a right winger. In fact, he hated Ronald Reagan. I wonder what happened.

7. I used to read him...

but when I first read his political op-ed...it was like "I talked to my Toddler (tm) today and she asked 'daddy, what will the world be like without evil liberals?' And I said, 'Toddler (tm), let's find out together.'"
Stupid, kitchy crap like that.

I don't read him anymore. He's too condescending, and his humor gets old after a while.
I read his "response" to Michael Moore's op-ed, and holy crap I was so mad at Lileks by the end of it I nearly had to walk away from the computer.

Lileks is condescending, he's insulting, and he's an asshole when he writes political commentary. I disagree that he's a "wise-ass". He's just an ass.

One of the more extreme warbloggers. More's the pity--I used to enjoy his site, once upon a time.
