Pentagon Says Bush Records of Service Were Destroyed
By RALPH BLUMENTHAL

Published: July 9, 2004

OUSTON, July 8 - Military records that could help establish President Bush's whereabouts during his disputed service in the Texas Air National Guard more than 30 years ago have been inadvertently destroyed, according to the Pentagon.

It said the payroll records of "numerous service members," including former First Lt. Bush, had been ruined in 1996 and 1997 by the Defense Finance and Accounting Service during a project to salvage deteriorating microfilm. No back-up paper copies could be found, it added in notices dated June 25.

1. How much credulity can these guys fucking strain?
Before it breaks? They are a laughingstock. Their excuses are ludicrous.

things are always inadvertantly destroyed during attempts to salvage them, especially something as tricky as microfilm. We all know how hard photographic images are to deal with. I'm sure that scanner light just made the plastic film go "poof" and vanish into thin air, along with the original paper documents. :eyes:

Absolute Horseshit.

this story deserves its own vodka ad...

5. In light of the fact
that the census records from 1850 are available on microfilm and have been for years and years, it's highly dubious the microfilm from the 1970s would get destroyed so easily. Same with microfiche.

We can look forward to another Nicholas Kristof column in the NY Times about how offended he is by people who say the Bush Administration consists of thugs and liars.

Kristof won't be offended by the lies, just critics of the lies.

7. Yep. Like I said on a previous thread...
I guess they haven't realized it yet, but everyone except the * faithful is getting pretty sick of all this crap. They can't pull the wool over everyone's eyes forever.

8. Connect the dots - Allbaugh was on a mission in '97
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/02/12/elec04.prez.bush.texas.records/

"He said that in 1997 he overheard Joe Allbaugh -- who was Bush's chief of staff at the time -- ask Guard commander Maj. Gen. Daniel James to gather Bush's files and "make sure there wasn't anything there that would embarrass the governor."

"It said the payroll records of "numerous service members," including former First Lt. Bush, had been ruined in 1996 and 1997 by the Defense Finance and Accounting Service during a project to salvage deteriorating microfilm. 10. Damn...
...what a lucky bastard. I wish I had a head of CIA former pres dad, so I could BE SO FUCKIN LUCKY!!! I hardly even have the energy or ire to get outraged anymore. It's like, "Gee, part of me, the part that expects the worst in people, was expecting that." I think I'd be bowled over if Bush one day did something that WASN'T a direct result of being a lying criminal murderous vengeful childish thug.

11. God this stinks really bad!
I used to work at a microfilming company. Both photographing documents and developing reels and microfiche...The utmost care is taken to make sure the film is of archival quality, meaning that it would last for centuries!!! The original documents are not destroyed unless the microfilm is of archival quality!!! If a batch of documents are shot or developed poorly then they are reshot and developed again until they are up to specifications! NO EXCEPTIONS! Sounds like they're blaming it on someone else's incompetence like they usually do (and who is going to investigate who developed dubya's records at this point...certainly not the press!)....which is why it stinks!

I predict the bogus "terror alert" story will receive more air play. If any body out there wants to offer 1:50 odds I'll take it. We all know the double standard by now and we know that the media would be tripping over their nooses if this were Clinton.

13. HORSERADISH! As My Mom Used To Say...

Microfilm does NOT deteriorate after 30 years!

About five years ago, I had to do research for an article I was writing. I contacted a police department in Wisconsin to acquire microfilm records from 1956. Got 'em without a problem! The Missus says that she was doing research in 1971 on something that happened in World War 1. She got the microfilms and they were just FINE!

I've seen microfilms from the 1920's when doing genealogical research!

So the idea that a certain section of microfilms has "deteriorated" is pure hogwash, unless perhaps they stored them in acid?

Sheesh!
