I'd never before seen a New York audience applaud a movie. Tonight a sophisticated Manhattan crowd burst into applause at the end of Fahrenheit 9/11. As we left the theater, I overheard many enthusiastic comments to the effect of "See? I told you so."
This movie is a phenomenon. I was expecting to be disappointed because of the hype, but I was amazed at its impact. The charges it makes against our political system have to be answered. I can't see Bush getting elected without addressing what it says.

The choir saw it the first week. This is the second wave, a crowd I think of as marginally apolitical. Their reactions indicated that they were unfamiliar with much of the material. This was not a political crowd.

and I only saw it a few days ago. I had to go to a town an hour away to do so. In fact, it's opening tomorrow in my hometown where I'm sure other members of the choir have been waiting anxiously for their sermon. :)

3. Oh, come on! NYC audiences applaud for movies all the time |
|
I've seen many a movie here that people applauded, hooted 'n hollered, and got all involved in (and not in an ignorant "I talk during movies and chew my gum loudly and eat nachos with my mouth open" kind of way).
I'm not surprised that F911 would continue to get applause and excitement from the crowd in NYC. As another poster commented, this is the choir. :-)
God, I love NY.
