Please keep this kicked until the debate.

GAK! It's scheduled to be an hour and a half long!

If you don't get CSPAN3, you can check it out online here:

http://www.c-span.org/watch/index.asp?Cat=TV&Code=CS3&ShowVidDays=30&ShowVidDesc=&ArchiveDays=30

And it will probably be rerun later on in the day on one of the other CSPAN channels too.

2. I'm afraid I don't know
I haven't been listening to NPR that much since AAR went on the air, so I'm in the dark about their plans too. I'm sure someone will add that info here later on.

6. I will be a Deaniac in the minority here
But I think its a travesty for Dean to be a part of this business at all. We have a lot better things to do than get into a pissing contest with Ralph Nader and I think that Dean lowers himself by being the designated attack dog of this party. It just reinforces all the negative shit they put on him during the primaries. As far as Nader is concerned, I am voting for Kerry/Edwards, but I believe he has the right to run if he wants to no matter how uncomfortable it makes us, and I firmly believe that if the Democratic Party would stand up for something, return to their roots and actually internalized the things that Nader espouses then we would not be having this conversation in the first place. The whole thing makes me sick.

9. why continue to put out that talking point....where anyone has said Nader
DOESN'T have the right to vote. I don't recall anyone ever saying he doesn't have that right. I also don't think his candidacy has anything to do with the positions taken by the democratic party.
I understand your feelings about Dean and Nader debating. However Dean, as one of the candidates who had a fair ammount of support from Nader supporters, has a roll to play on bridging the gap between the two groups. Since Nader is all about attention and exposure, I am sure he is grateful to have Dean give time for this debate.

10. I respectfully dissent
If the Democratic Party truly was a party that regularly paid attention to Progressive ideas and acted on them then Nader would be back in the consumer advocacy business. Elections may be won in the middle but that does not mean that's the way things ought to be. Instead of reviling Nader and criticizing his supporters as being pie-in-the-sky, unrealistic and out of touch, my party needs to reach out to these people and actually DO something for people. That is why Nader will not go away. Both parties are damned good at talking the talk, I expect my party to at least walk the walk part of the way. The answer to the Nader problem is crystal clear, yet we waste time attacking him.

14. as a liberal/progressive member of the democratic party
and someone who is not happy at all with the Kedwards ticket, I can tell you that I have zero belief in Ralph Nader. He doesn't speak for me, nor do I think he gives a shit about progressive politics. I think he is a shame, a fraud and a liar.
So no, I don't think he is running because the party has betrayed it's base. Nader himself has betrayed the liberal base by foisting bush on us in an attempt to punish the party for not idolizing and elevating him to positions of authority in the manner he thinks he deserves.

17. Don't believe in Nader myself
But to me a lot of what he says is true and that is what resonates with a lot of people even if they find him a crotchety old megalomaniac. This ticket and this party is nowhere near progressive enough to make the fundamental changes this country requires.

25. Nader would be running
were Dean the nominee. Hell, I think he might have ran even if Kucinich were the nominee.

Nader is enjoying the attention he is recieving. The media plays up his chances and whores for him constantly, inflating his already massive ego.

He's recieving a LOT of help from right wingers and has taken it VERY willingly.

Nader is everything Cheswick said.

19. Nader has been asking to debate, Dean is engaging him in a subject
that is crucial to this campaign.

I don't see it as Dean being an attack dog at all. I see it as two men who respect one another discussing/debating an issue that needs a hashing.

15. And what if he doesn't convince Nader not to drop out?
Will Dean be blamed for Nader running?
How about a little respect for Dean for being willing to eat shit this way in defense of a party who ganged up to end his candidacy?
Dean is more loyal to us and the country than most other politician and Kerry benefits from that fact. I am remembering Kerry's remarks that he would not have gone to florida for the recount battle even if he had been asked.

18. I understand where you are coming from Voltaire
But Nader is an adult and accepted the idea of this debate. He stands as much to gain from this as he has to lose. It's not like Dean or the party held a gun to his head and forced him to do this. He knew what the debate would be about. I'm actually pretty sure he was happy for the chance to have as large of a forum and amount of time to defend his campaign as he's getting tonight.

But, like I said, I understand where you're coming from so PEACE.

(BTW, I never congratulated you on your delegate win. So...congrats! :toast: Sorry about that. Things have been...tough over here the last few months. :hi: Hope to be seeing you again soon! )

The convention experience was an educational one and it was nice to get back into the swing of things again. I know your troubles will sort themselves out soon. We all need to get together and do something to celebrate a victory on November 2nd.

Nader is shameless.

I think it's great that Dean is trying to make inroads with some of Nader's supporters, though I think many of them (Naderites) are enthralled in a cult of personality.
