CNN and the free RNC advertising
I just sent this off to the morning crew...don't expect to see it aired, so I thought I share it with DU...not my most elequent letter, but what the hell. They won't read it anyway!

---

Is CNN billing the RNC or the Bush Campaign for the hundreds of thousands of dollars of FREE ADVERTISING you are providing the Bush team through your willingness to repeatedly air any excuse for a "campaign ad" the party delivers to your mailbox? It seems that you've been able to link every story to an excuse to run the latest campaign ad -- "Mrs. Lampwick is a schoolmarm in Podunk, and their class is doing a mock election...first, lets show the third graders the latest Bush campaign ad and ask them to comment."

It is transparent and reprehensible, and potentially afoul of campaign finance laws, as I'm sure a first-year law student could demonstrate that your unfair and unbalanced repetition of Republican cheerleading is anything but "news."

Sincerely,
Another former CNN fan

From the checks the RNC sends him every week.

2. Good luck.. I complained to the DNC last time about their LACK
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 08:18 AM by SoCalDem
of complaints about the talk radio/Fox 24/7 infomercials for Bush...and the lady at the DNC actually laughed and said.. "yes, it's really troublesome, isn't it"?.. In other words.. Ho-hum..we don't care..

If the shoe were on the other foot, the repubes would be camping out at the FCC HQ , and there would be lawsuits all over the place..

The DNC does not complain, so the media outlets who DO this, know they have a free ride..

Out here when Davis was runnign against Simon, in 2002...Simon was a CO-HOST of a drive-time radio "hatefest" show,, They did nothing but take calls from repubes and trash Davis for HOURS ON END..

We are too polite.,.and it gets us every time.

3. On the other hand, the one-hour interview on Larry King
last night with Kerry and Teresa was very interesting and probably worth more than any of this crap. Once the general public gets to know Sen. Kerry, Sen. Edwards and their families, things will change a lot. All of these people project intelligence, knowledge and sincerity. I can't wait for the similar Edwards interview.

4. Yeah, perhaps. But could you have a BEER with them?
That's the hallmark, can you have a beer with a candidate. That's what most the sheep say about Dumbya "Yeah, he don't talk so plain, but y'know, I could sit down an' have a beer and talk sports w'the boy..."

Intelligence, knowledge and sincerity doesn't mean a thing. It's all about "likeability"....

So we (the Democrats) get thoughtful personal interviews with our candidates (which we stay up past our bedtime to see) but the GOP gets free pl;aybacks of their carefully executed ads to appeal to their targets.

It's like the difference in demographics between "WWE" and "NOW w/Bill Moyer" watchers.

5. I'd rather have a glass of fine French Bordeaux with him...
while discussing Sartre and Baudelaire.

7. As Opposed to a Near-Beer With Dubya?
If * wants to campaign on his beer-sharability, he opens up for a broadside attack.

6. I read here a lot about the "magic about to happen"
Then every day, even when they were doing the Edwards introduction on MSNBC, they ran the new Busch Ad as part of the story.

Magic ain't gonna happen folks. And with the description in this post of the DNC attitude, it will never happen unless it is provoked at the grass root level. Like a million e-mails to DNC and every network, or something that will get their attention.
