Plan To Bomb Gay Bars, 'Liberal' Churches Nets Prison Term

(Fort Lauderdale, Florida) A man charged with plotting to blow up gay bars, abortion clinics and "liberal" churches was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison.

Stephen John Jordi, described as a religious fundamentalist, was arrested last November after buying gasoline cans, flares, starter fluid and propane tanks with a government informant.

Jordi, a former Army Ranger also was charged with terrorism.

Police said that he had planned to bomb gay bars in the Fort Lauderdale area and was targeting abortion clinics and churches which he felt were soft on homosexuality.

I read about plots to blow up gay bars, kill gays, blow up abortion clinics, etc. Yet, I never hear about plots by gays to blow up churches or cowboy bars.

7. I don't know why it took me so long

I could see how the corpo-fascists and the neocons could enter into a "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" alliance -- but it took me a longer time to figure out how and what the corpo-fascists gain from religion -- because it seems that religion would suggest that you turn away from the soulless pursuit of the acquisition of material goods.

But they've masterminded it -- baited millions of people into a revised Christianity, which serves little purpose to transcendence or worship of Christ, but combines a narrative of nationalism, conformity and control.

The consumer impulse relies on "normality," -- which can only be helped by a largely in-step cultural electorate/demographic. Religion is a great tool, because it has all these absolutes at its disposal -- and you're also effectively able to demonize your own countrypeople -- particularly those who strive toward a more multicultural/egalitarian society.

I know that Marx figured this out a long time before I did. I guess I held out hope, to some extent, that Christians would have some kind of fucking spine, or be true to the teachings of Christ.

I think I was mostly too hopeful.

The swingers and the plebs need to know what they're supporting when they support the GOP social re-education culture plan.

On Edit: This isn't the first person who has target gays, gay bars, and women's clinics in the name of Christianity either.

Further edit: As I recall a number of denominations were cheering on Bush unleashing "shock and awe" on Iraq.

Point being there are bad apples in every religion and fundamentalism spurs people to acts like this.

Christianity deserves some ridicule. I understand that you may dislike the constant attack, but the radical Christians are getting more press and are becoming far more active than the "true Christian".

A little sarcastic introspective isn't bad and I don't believe that any religious slander should be banned. Christians, like Islamics need to weed out the radicals within their faiths.

who attend those gay bars, work in those clinics and attend those churches (and I know exactly the ones he is talking about).
