Michigan GOP Gathers Names for Nader
Well isn't this sweet? I mean, considering he also draws votes from Bush and all.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=1963&e=10&u=/ap/20040709/ap_on_el_pr/nader_petitions

LANSING, Mich. - Michigan Republicans are helping gather signatures to place independent Ralph Nader (news - web sites) on the presidential ballot in the battleground state, irritating Democrats who accuse the GOP of trying to pull votes away from candidate John Kerry (news - web sites).

"It's another example of state Republicans willing to try every unethical trick in the book to hold power," Democratic Executive Chairman Mark Brewer said Thursday. "This clearly shows that a vote for Ralph Nader is a vote to re-elect George Bush. The Republicans know that, and that's why they are desperate to have Nader on the Michigan ballot."

Greg McNeilly of the state Republican Party said the GOP is doing nothing wrong and hopes Nader will draw votes from the Democratic candidate. Republicans will make sure Nader has more than the 30,000 valid signatures he needs by July 15 to qualify for the Michigan ballot, McNeilly said.

"Unlike the Democratic Party, where 'D' stands for disenfranchisement, we want voters to have choices," he said.

2. A vote for Nader is a vote for Bush
Interesting that the Republicans realize that. It's absolutely brilliant on their part to get Nader on the ballot.

to draw votes from the party that he's closer to? Couldn't he stop this if he chose to?

9. Nader WANTS to destroy the Democratic Party
There was an article on that recently in the Nation or something. (I wish I could remember.) He wants to destroy the Democratic Party because he sees it as, although better than the GOP, still pandering to corporate interests.

When the Democratic Party dies, the Green Party will rise from the ashes.

It's similar to Lenin's strategy of wanting things to get worse before they get better.

4. "the GOP is doing nothing wrong..."
bullshit - they're doing something that is clearly wrong; it's just not illegal.

8. Only care if it's legal, don't worry about if it's ethical
Seems more and more people think that way.

*sigh*

5. Republicans sure know how to waste time and money
It seems to me that more and more people are heading away from Nader so go ahead and bring it on! Waste your time and money.

Nader's been getting more media coverage and every time I see him he holds up his book looking more like he's on a media blitz campaign to sell it than being serious about being POTUS. Yes, people need to and should vote their conscience. But the more I see Nader, the more obvious it is that his interests are purely and singly self-serving.

11. You're taking what's true for you and assuming it's true for others too.
Unfortunately, there may be a certain small percentage of the electorate who will become more likely to vote for Nader due to the media coverage given him.

6. Hey RedQueen Where did you find that quote by Al Queda about Kerry?
I need to show that to my Republican father who I've almost converted, but he still seems to think that terrorists would prefer a Kerry victory.

7. I saw it in someone else's sig -- here's a link

This came out in the stories about the Spain terrorist attack. It was in a letter from a group claiming responsibility.

Google for 'al qaeda statement because of this we desire bush to be elected' (no quotes), you ~32,200 hits. Here's one:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/s1068257.htm

(snip)

The statement said it supported US President George W Bush in his re-election campaign and would prefer him to win in November rather than the Democratic candidate John Kerry, as it was not possible to find a leader "more foolish than you , who deals with matters by force rather than with wisdom".

In comments addressed to Mr Bush, the group said "Kerry will kill our nation while it sleeps because he and the Democrats have the cunning to embellish blasphemy and present it to the Arab and Muslim nation as civilisation".

"Because of this we desire you to be elected."

The group is named after Muhammed Atef, also known as Abu Hafs, a close bin Laden aide killed in the US-led war in Afghanistan.

10. I'm wondering if I should use this or not
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 10:57 AM by noahmijo
I think it's a good quote to have and use and it makes sense, but to stubborn repubs like my father he would probably say "oh it's just a fluke you see, they are using reverse psychology, they actually want Kerry because he'd be weaker on terrorism (!)"

I guess my response would be:

Well you listen to Savage and he claims a big reason terrorists hate us is because of our deviant homosexual behavior and sexual degeneracy as a whole. That's obviously a category that those al-queda thugs are eluding to when they talk about how America takes them over in their sleep. We spread playboy and coke overseas and this offends them greatly as does the fact that someone like Kerry doesn't support outlawing gay sex or marriage. Considering also Bush's ties with the Saudis, I wonder who between the two have would owe more to the terrorists so to speak. Lastly consider the recent speech Kerry gave concerning putting pressure on the saudis.

Anything else?

12. Has he seen Farenheit 9/11?
The examples Mike cites of Bush CUTTING FUNDING for antiterrorism measures is unimpeachable. He did this AFTER he was warned that Al Qaeda was the greatest danger to our nation's safety.

Wish I'd have taken notes!

14. Does he know

That despite warnings from the Hartman-Rudman report that "mass casualty terrorism directed against the U.S. homeland was of serious and growing concern", and that "This commission believes that the security of the American homeland from the threats of the new century should be the primary national security mission of the U.S. government", the Bush administration cut funding for securing loose nukes from the former Soviet Union?

That when Ashcroft sent his Justice Department budget request to Bush, it included spending increases in sixty-eight different programs, NONE of which dealt with terrorism?

That Rumsfeld threatened to veto a request from Congress to divert a tiny amount of money from Rumsfeld's missile defense program to anti-terror measures? (Not sure if that even made it to the floor)
