When political correctness backfires
I'm a lifelong Democrat and am going to die a Democrat (rather soon if I don't get back to the gym). But I'm a politcally incorrect Democrat so I still can find stuff like this amusing:

Assemblyman Mervyn Dymally, D-Compton, the former lieutenant governor and congressman, was planning to hold a news conference to criticize Riordan, apparently thinking the girl was black and therefore Riordan's comment had racial overtones.

Dymally learned she was white, even as Riordan issued another apology, and he canceled the press conference.

1. Assumptions tend to backfire.
Leading cause of interpersonal problems! Hopefully he's learned a valuable lesson from that experience.

Interviewer "Mr Riordan, does your name mean 'Stupid insensitive Politician? I think it does."

4. I agree completely
I just find it amusing that someone was about to denounce him for racism for insulting a white girl.

She said, "Where ya been?" I said, "No place special."
She said, "You look different." I said, "Well, I guess."
She said, "You been gone." I said, "That's only natural."
She said, "You gonna stay?" I said, "If ya want me to. . .Yes!."

Isis, oh, Isis, you mystical child.
What drives me to you is what drives me insane.
I still can remember the way that you smiled
On the fifth day of May in the drizzlin' rain.

5. That *any* grownup would make such a nasty comment to *any* child . . .
...is reprehensible.

What is wrong with people these days?
