Kerry & Edwards families to attend church services together Sunday in NC.
.
When was the last time you saw Dubya go to church? You didn't, because on the weekends he is ALWAYS at Camp David playing with the Sony Playstation and drinking Jack Daniels.

The part about Kerry and Edwards going to church on Sunday is in the last paragraph snipped below.

----------------------

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Sen. John Kerry and Sen. John Edwards will bring their presidential campaign to Raleigh this weekend.

Both senators will hold a rally Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at the Court of the Carolinas on the campus of North Carolina State University near the Bell Tower.

Gates open at 1 p.m. Parking is available in the campus garages and lots. Around 3 p.m., Kerry and Edwards are scheduled to arrive at RDU International.

Meanwhile, free tickets to Saturday's rally in Raleigh are available on the North Carolina Democratic Party's Web site. Tickets are also available at several distribution centers across the state.

Kerry and Edwards are both scheduled to attend a church service in North Carolina on Sunday. The location has not yet been announced. Officials are meeting in Raleigh Friday to make security plans.

-------------------

Woo Hoo! I have my tickets for the rally Saturday! Can't wait. I'm taking my digital camera too so I'll try to get some pics & post 'em.

1. Who gives a shit whether or not they go to church?
We're electing a president, not a preacher. When is this country going to stop this hypocritical church-going stuff and start concentrating on what counts.

Kerry and Edwards are the best thing that could happen to this country and I couldn't care less if they were Druids.

4. You may not give a shit, but a lot of people do apparently.

Why is it "hypocritical" of them to go to church?

7. Because too many politicians have been
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 03:21 PM by Cyrano
wearing their religion on their sleeves for too long.

That's not (suppossed to be) an issue in a democracy.

And in far too many cases, politicians don't go to church to worship. They go to impress voters. Ummm, isn't that the definition of a hypocrite?

8. If Kerry and Edwards are regular church goers, then ummmm
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 03:25 PM by Lex
NO, they are not hypocrites to attend church this Sunday. And since they are campaining together this weekend in NC, why not go to church together?

And I'm glad they AREN'T conceding the issue of God to the repukes.

They are clearly hitting Bush and Cheney right where the repukes think they have all the votes sewn up--in the southern bible belt.

10. Okay, Lex, you win. If it'll bring in votes, fine.
But at least be honest with yourself and recognize it for the "show biz" it is.

14. Seems kinda cynical, not to mention arrogant, to presume to know
that they're going for "show biz." Believe it or not, some people go to religious services because they believe they get spiritual enlightenment, inner strength or just plain comfort from going. I don't recall seeing the Church service being listed on the Kerry Events page...

Don't think so.

6. Wonderful- wish I lived closer to Raleigh- this is going to be exciting
but I hope they (or at least Edwards) can come back again maybe to Asheville or Charlotte too.

I also wish that our local ABC affiliate in Asheville wasn't owned by Sinclair Broadcasting (and the other networks are out of S.C.) We probably won't get much coverage and what little we do get will be tarnished by much negative commentary from Repubs. Their leading political story yesterday was about Repubs calling for Edwards to step down from the Senate immediately since he is having to miss votes and alleging that he can't properly represent the state while he is campaigning.

9. Well, at least he's not clearing brush in Texas.
I would also assume he reads newspapers. Step down? If ever there was a case for someone stepping down, the Smirk has given us a thousand reasons.

would strike him right before he got to the door...

cheney "fuck yourself America" NEVER goes near a Church...never...

and the cheney spin portrayal...as shown on prominent religiously-insane reTHUGlican web pages, all over America...the devil in disguise...

16. I understand the need to appeal to those voters who think "church-going"
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 03:40 PM by Solly Mack
proves something when it doesn't prove anything at all...but as an advocate of separation of church and state, I'd like to see evidence of a strong inclination to divorce politics from religion.

17. You can be a politician who goes to church and still
absolutely believe in and advocate for the separation of church and state.

In fact, Americans need to see that good, liberal and progressive people CAN attend church and DO believe that the state and the church should be separate matters.

The GOP has for too long tried to co-opt the issue and ram religion down our throats as a political matter.

One CAN be a politician and a church-goer and not have to be Jerry Falwell's mouthpiece in the government. People will be refreshed by that, imho.

20. Oh, I agree a person can do both
but I want "news" stating that and I want "news" with politicians stating that...and not just "news" of a politician going to church without stating that. By just showing "they went to church", it's an appeal to the all too dangerous mingling of church and state that has been fostered in this country.

I will be looking to actions and not just church-going and words. It will be the actions that show the true measure.

I agree people will be refreshed by a politician who can keep their religion removed from their job performance. I don't need to hear the teachings of Jesus inspired a politician to feed the hungry. I donate to food banks that feed the hungry and Jesus had nothing to do with it. I do it because it's what a society does to help society as a whole.
