Fahrenheit 9/11 at the two week mark. Top 15 overall box office for 2004. |
|
Over 10 million tickets sold so far. And it's opening in about 300 more theaters today, boosting its release to over 2000 theaters (finally).
Over three times the gross of Bowling From Columbine -- which used to be the biggest grossing documentary -- after just 14 days.
Should pass the 80 million mark (domestic market only) over the weekend.
All this before the man gets the cover of Time.

7. It's the perfect double-feature with Spiderman. |
|
You get to see how our powerful leaders abused their power, and then you get to see how Spiderman chooses to use his power responsibly!
Of course, Control Room is the ideal triple feature partner, for other reasons.

4. I'm gonna go see it for the first time this weekend... |
|
I just decided to wait a bit, both so I could go to the theater planning to see it without worrying about not being able to get a ticket, and also as doing my part to give it 'legs'. I may end up going to see it more than once, but by starting later, hopefully those who are thinking like me will keep the buzz going a bit longer...

6. I've been studying and writing about film for years... |
|
...and count a number of great documentaries among my favorite movies of all time. I've spent a good deal of energy over the years giving special attention to "underdog" documentaries because, truly, they have traditionally been overlooked and ignored by general audiences. I can tell you that Moore's success with "F- 9/11" is all the more impressive to someone like me who has a pretty extensive working knowledge of the history of documentary filmmaking. He's single-handedly altering the future of the entire genre in a very positive direction, including no doubt inspiring a new generation of young documentarians who are just coming up. So more power to him. Well done, Michael.
