<<Congressman compares Gov. Bush's post-2000 recount behavior to bin Laden

The Associated Press
Posted July 9 2004, 8:26 PM EDT

MIAMI -- A Democratic Florida congressman on Friday compared Gov. Jeb Bush's behavior after the contentious 2000 presidential recount to that of Osama bin Laden, saying the governor went into hiding.

Rep. Kendrick Meek, in a conference call designed to discuss President Bush's record on issues key to black voters, said there was a ``lack of accountability from the state of Florida'' during the disputed recount process.

``No one could find him when they had issues as it relates to so many African-American votes that were left on the floor in many supervisor of elections offices throughout the state,'' said Meek, the Florida chairman for the Kerry-Edwards presidential campaign.

``The governor was like bin Laden after the 2000 election.''

What a great guy, but I think he definitely crossed the line on this one. As much as I hate my governor, Jeb, is he Osama bin Laden? No way.

1. He is just saying that he went into hiding... I don't see more than that.
And I do think that Osama is deader than a doornail... But he is supposed to be in hiding... I don't see your point.

5. I don't see a similarity between a crooked governor and a mass murderer
Osama goes into hiding after orchestrating the mass murder of 3000 Americans. Jeb was busy supporting the fanatics with "Sore Loserman" Gore Lieberman posters in Palm Beach. I don't see Meek's comparison. If you want to say Jeb didn't see to it that the elections process was fair, fine, I agree, but you can't say he acted like the worst terrorist in the world. If Dubya said Kerry's like Osama in the Senate because you can never find him present there, we'd all be outraged.

2. No. These kind of hard-nosed tactics are necessary when dealing with
a ruthless enemy like the Republicans.

3. I love Rep. Meek,
He has a promising career and is one of the few willing to stand up to the neocons.

I think he was referring to OBL being impossible to find and nothing more.

4. He's a Republican & a Bush
that makes him near as dammit a participant in all sorts of nefarious dealings.
His behavior during the recount was appalling and he did a Cheney during that period.
