I can't believe the GARBAGE -m
printed in my husband's International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) magazine this week. He is a drag racer. Read this:

Random Bull:

LIKE IT OR NOT . . .
BUSH COVERED IT!

You know, it is easy to forget the 'promises' that Bill and Hillary made while in office. It strikes home when it is listed like this:

After the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, which killed six and injured 1000; President Clinton promised that those responsible ould be hunted down and punished.
BUSH COVERED IT!

After the 1995 bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed five U.S. military personnel; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
BUSH COVERED IT!

After the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed 19 and injured 200 U.S. military personnel; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
BUSH COVERED IT!

After the 1998 bombing of U.S. embassies in Africa, which killed 224 and injured 5,000; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
BUSH COVERED IT!

After the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole, which killed 17 and injured 39 U.S. sailors; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
BUSH COVERED IT!

Maybe if Clinton had kept his promise, an estimated 3,000 people in New York and Washington, D.C. that are now dead would be alive today.
BUSH TOLD THOSE FIREMAN (sic) -- THEY WOULD HEAR US TOO!

And, now that Bush is taking action to bring these people to justice, we have a few charging him with being a war monger . . .

-------------------
This pisses us off on SO MANY levels.

First, it makes the classic mistake of mixing up Al Qaeda and Iraq, like they're all the same. Bush isn't really going after Al Qaeda. He's abandoned the war on terror for this stupid war in Iraq.

No that was second . . . First is HOW DARE HE blame Clinton for Sept. 11 !!! ARGGGGHHHHHHH

My husband is so upset he is is cancelling his membership to the IHRA in protest, he is writing to let them know why - though in researching this he's learned that the IHRA is owned by Clear Channel Entertainment so what's the chance they'll care . . . He also plans to contact his track to ask them to switch to the NHRA, and he is going to write to the sponsors of the IHRA to complain.

We can't sit back and let people make these kinds of claims without complaining! If this kind of garbage was put out about Ronald Reagan every dittohead in the universe would be complaining!!!

I'm hoping some of you can help us with points to put in the letter he is writing to the IHRA cancelling his membership. They will never get another penny out of this family.

Did everyone here know that the head of the FCC is the son of Colin Powell? I just learned that . . .

Anyway, thanks if you can help!

I've always been a democrat, and I've always voted, but I've never gotten as involved as I am now. So yeah, I'm just learning.

12. Welcome to DU, Michigan Voter....
Howdy from another Kalamazooan!

First of all, in addition the majority of really cool people here on DU, there are some real ASSHOLES, who make rude, flippant comments. So, just ignore the previous reply to your posting.

Also, just so you know, until you have a lot more postings under your belt people will probably treat you with suspicion. We've had problems with conservative right wing nut cases from the Free Republic (the conservative alternative to DU) , aka "Freepers" coming over here and stirring up the pot, baiting discussions, etc.. They typically have low post counts.

And for the record, I've been on DU for about a year and a half now, I consider myself to be very well read and very well informed and I did NOT know that Michael Powell, head of the FCC and Colin Powell were father and son. Thank you for teaching me something new tonight. So, the first person who replied to your post should just shut the fuck up with the rude comments already.

I thought that might be what happened. I understand why people might be suspicious. Tensions are high this year. It's only going to get uglier before November.

Anyway, thanks. I've lived in Kalamazoo my whole life! It's a great place.

I also live in MI -- have lived here all my life.

How are the politics in K-zoo? Is it more liberal like Detroit or Ann Arbor? Conservative like Grand Rapids? or somewhere in between like many of the suburbs?

I was just kinda curious.

Oh and BTW, don't bother with a few DUers that make some rude remarks. I really don't get this low post count suspicion. Everyone has to start somewhere!

29. Don't mind the posters that make snide comments. They may have
had a bad day. You may want to include in your letter that it was R Reagan that was the president that set the tone for responses to terrorists. When the marine barricks in Beiruit was bombed and marines were killed, he withdrew the troops and never tried to hunt down the responsible parties. They love Reagan (Raygun here) so that will tweek their little wolfers.

Let me see if I can find some links to threads that may help.

Welcome to DU :hi:

4. WTF?
That shit isn't even close to being true.
Clinton's admin did hunt down and punish the ones responsible for nearly all of those except for the Cole, mainly becuase Yemen was resisting the efforts by the US to prosecute those responsible.
I've seen this shit list before, and I'm just as mad.
Someone with better writing skills than me should get links to these incidents and tell what really happened.

9. A long read, but a real eyeopener about Homeland Security
Bush Administration cut $150 million for first responders. The Bush Administration cut Homeland Security spending by $150 million for 2004. This budget does not provide enough money to give emergency responders adequate training and resources – even though they are on the front lines. The Bush Administration rejected a $200 million proposal to adequately support first responders – at the same time asking for $290 million in spending for first responders in Iraq. (“Senate Digs into Iraq $87 Billion,” Christian Science Monitor, September 29, 2003; “The War Against Terrorism: Working Together to Protect America,” U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy, March 4, 2003)

GOP rejects funding for 1,803 additional Arizona first responders. Congressional Republicans rejected a proposal to hire 100,000 additional first responders nationwide, including nearly 1,803 in Arizona. At the same time the Bush Administration supported $290 million in spending for first responders for Iraq. (“Senate Digs into Iraq $87 billion,” Christian Science Monitor, September 29, 2003; “Republicans Reject Extending Unemployment Benefits, Hiring 100,000 Police, Fire and Security Personnel,” U.S. Rep. George Miller Press Release, March 27, 2003)

Bush calls for $1 billion in cuts for Homeland Security in secret budget planning document. In May 2004, a secret budget planning memo became public. In the document, Bush called for $1 billion in Homeland Security funding. These cuts could pay the salaries of more than 23,700 police officers or more than 28,000 firefighters.

Bush 2005 budget cuts 15% from Department of Homeland Security grants for federal assistance to local law enforcement, including first responders – COPS funds are sliced by 80%. “The budget also includes $3.6 billion for state and local agencies, including local police and firefighters, which is more than $800 million less than the 2004 budgeted amount.”

Bush 2005 budget cuts nearly $1 billion in Homeland Security grants for local law enforcement. “Total homeland security grants sought for state and local agencies are down $975 million in the proposed budget from last year’s figure to $1.4 billion. Requested funding for state and local training, exercises and technical assistance is down $142 million -- from $320 million in FY 2004 to $178 million.”

Bush cut $5 million in Rural Firefighter Training Grants.

Bush cut $250 million in FIRE Act programs, - a 33 percent reduction. The FIRE program sends money directly to local fire departments to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public and firefighting personnel.

10. The Facts
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 10:26 PM by xray s
Bush #1 and Reagan funded Osama bin Laden. They were allied with Saddam Hussein. Bush #1 let Saddam Hussein invade Kuwait. Bush #2 is destroying our military and bankrupting the families of Reservists and National Guard troops because of his reckless unnecessary war against a country that was totally surrounded and absolutely no threat to the US. Bush ignored all the warnings of an impending attack throughout 2001 and went golfing for a month before 9/11.

OSAMA BIN LADEN IS STILL AT LARGE AND BUSH WON"T EVEN SAY HIS NAME IN PUBLIC!

yeah...Bush has it covered, alright. COVERED UP!

13. good for you
We can't remain silent when we see this deceptive garbage.

As to confusing Iraq and Al Qaeda, read free republic and you'll soon discover that misguided bigots lump ALL Muslims together until they're one formless faceless 'terrorist'. That's why they're immune to reason when faced with facts about the complete lack of cooperation between the two. To them, this is revenge against Arabs, pure and simple. Where they're from is irrelevant.

Keep up the good fight.

You hear it all over Sports Talk Radio where Democrats are the butt of jokes...With Ruppert Murdoch taking over D-TV, I predict Animal Planet will be turned into a "Canned Hunting Channel" and National Geographic will be turned into the "Our World of Oil, Oil is Our World" channel.

16. If anyone is interested, here's what he wrote
I’ve noted in the past Bill Bader using his “Bill’s Bull” editorial to push his political views. My wife pointed out to me that Mr. Bader is well within the limits of an editorial to be telling jokes about Hillary Clinton, but this time he has gone too far.

Suggesting that Bill Clinton, or anyone other than al Qaeda, is responsible for the events of September 11, 2001 is disgusting. I demand that Mr. Bader retract this statement and print an apology in the next edition of Drag Review. I will be contacting IHRA’s sponsors to be sure they are aware of the kind of vitriol being printed by your organization. I will also be contacting my local IHRA affiliated track, US131 Motorsports Park, in Martin Michigan, to request that they review their affiliation.

Please cancel my membership to the IHRA. My membership number is *****

---------------------

He said he'd rather not go through and argue the specific points with them - he just wants them to apologize for blaming Clinton. I don't think they will.

Anyway, thanks for being a sounding board. This is infuriating.

18. Bill Clinton...
...captured, prosecuted, and jailed those responsible for WTC1.

He did so without murdering tens of thousands of innocent civilians.

He did this without a Patriot Act.

He accomplished this without building torture and concentration Camps.

He did not waste hundred of BILLIONs of dollars.

These criminals were successfully prosecuted in open court with all of their Constitutional Rights INTACT.

As far as I know, the guy responsible for 9-11 is still alive and well.

20. DO NOT FORGET
1 - Bushit did absolutely NOTHING about terrorism until 9-11. He totally ignored the problem for 8 months!

2 - Bushit appointed Condi Rice as National Security Adviser. She was a Gold War expert and not qualified as an expert on terrorism.

3 - Bushit took a month of vacation just prior to 9-11 despite intelligence pointing to possible terror attacks.

4 - Bushit never conducted a single major cabinet-level meeting on terrorism prior to 9-11.

5 - Bushit ignored warnings from Richard Clarke, Sandy Berger, and everyone else who tried to warn him of the looming danger.

6 - IOW, Bushit was totally responsible for 9-11.

24. I just love amateur copywriters
This writing makes no sense:

"Bush Covered It."

Bush covered what? What is the "it" to which the writer is referring?

Another nonsensical element is the timing. Bush covered "it" when?

And how?

And for that matter, which bush are they talking about?

Horrible. Reads like babybush talks!

Welcome to DU, Michigan Voter. I like your letter in post 16.

26. Does anyone else find it more than a little odd
That Clear Channel, mouthpiece of GOP garbage, actually owns a racing circuit, (or whatever you'd call it), which coincidentally happens to be a hotbed of conservative lovin'? "Long fingers," I say.

Bush runs the government. His lackey Powell loosens the FCC so the conservative mouthpiece squelches out all other discourse. In the meantime, they're backing it up with "innocent pastimes" that are designed and used as propaganda tools for the GOP, thus extending the reach of the mouthpiece.

And people try to tell me that there's no central command place where they orchestrate this shit from.

27. Fox and Clear Channel are the major propaganda centers.
“Page's detailed and compelling case, based on his investigation of Murdoch's operations in Australia, Britain, the USA and the Chinese People's Republic, amounts to this: as an international operator, Murdoch offers his target governments a privatized version of a state propaganda service, manipulated without scruple and with no regard for truth. His price takes the form of vast government favors such as tax breaks, regulatory relief, monopoly markets and so forth. The propaganda is undertaken with the utmost cynicism, whether it's the stentorian fake populism and soft porn in the UK's Sun and News of the World, or shameless bootlicking of the butchers of Tiananmen Square.”

always glad to see racers/hot rodder types here. sadly, most that get any kind of pleasure out of internal combustion engines buy into the repug thing, intentional or not.

it certainly gets tough to deal with when your leisure time activities have this kind of crap mixed in. i frequent a hot rod type board with a "no politics" rule, but that doesn't apply to flag waving and war-mongering bushit. gotta love mods who lock threads with comments like "i can't hide my hate for liberals" as their closing remarks.
