1. Find unregistered voters and convince them to register |
|
and vote democratic.
There's probably a LOT of people in conservative states who WANT to get Bush out but aren't quite sure what to do...

5. i'm not from Kansas, but I am from Mississippi |

i'm not naive. i know that my state will not be blue in this election. if you live in a traditionally conservative state, there's not much you can do to change the way people vote because they're so set in their beliefs and so narrow minded. All you can do is try to educate people and inform on why John Kerry is the right choice for president this election. Don't blow people away with abortion and gay rights issues if that's not what they like to hear about. tell them about the economy and foreign relations. Any time you spend on this campaign is valuable. Good luck!

Are you familiar with What's the Matter with Kansas? : How Conservatives Won the Heart of America? The author, Thomas Frank, was on NOW last night, though I've heard him interviewed elsewhere before.

You are faced with a task that is next to impossible but don't despair: Kansas used to be liberal and it will be again, when people wake up and stop voting against their interests.
Read "What's The Matter With Kansas" and make your organizers read it also. It will help you understand the culture war you are fighting. Remember that real political power comes from the soles of your feet. Arm yourself with democratic candidates' literature and start walking, recruiting helpers as you go.
Check with the local party headquarters to find out who your precinct captain is and, if there is none, take the job (they'll be thrilled that you volunteered). After your precinct is organized, attack neighboring precincts in the same manner. And so on and so on and so on.
Win or lose, don't disband after the election because we need to have a presence at all civic meetings. We need to control the school board, the city council, the county commission and all other governing bodies. Republicans are like cockroaches: they can be driven out but they'll always try to return.
Good luck!
