Subject: Freedom of Information and a Mouse That Roars

Thought you might be interested in an article that's off the beaten path...a tiny bi-weekly newsletter, Mine Safety & Health News, has just published a trumpet blast in defense of the Freedom of Information Act, which as you know is regularly being flouted by the current administration. Excerpt:

Last week...the U.S. Labor Department's Associate Solicitor for Mine Safety and Health disclosed that, without public comment or input, MSHA secretly changed its long-standing policy of routinely releasing inspector notes under the Freedom of Information Act... I keep asking myself, "Is this America?" How can MSHA secretly adopt polices that go against 27 years of openness? And how can this administration openly violate a law whose intent and purpose is to make records available to the public?

MS&HNews does not post stories on its own website but the full story is on:

Thanks for what you do, Buzz. You help keep some of us sane.

Regards,

Kathy Snyder (a grateful reader)
