Poll question: John Kerry - Is he just lucky? Or is he good?
I don't know? This guy appears to be a winner. Things just seem to generally go his way. A lot of things. Just one example is his pick for the VP slot. He picked the right guy. There is no doubt about that. I personally don't put much stock in coincidences. I think Kerry has what it takes to send the Chimp packing back to the Waco pig farm. So I am going with good on this one. (Yea, you were right all along Will Pitt and many other DUers. Congratulations. And thank you too.)

1. Damn good.
In his very methodical and carefully plotted way, Kerry is beginning to control the debate.

And when compare his dignified approach with that of Geprge "Yosemite Sam" Bush, the contrast is striking.

19. Yosemite Sam! I hadn't thought of that! That's good.
I hope somebody makes a composite of Shrub as Yosemite Sam. If somebody has, please post the link. Thanks!

2. How about "Good AND lucky"?

Kerry wasn't my first choice, and I certainly hope to see more leftward movement from the campaign, but I'm pleased he's speaking out for national health insurance and bringing up the class issue (praising Edwards's "two Americas" speech.)

Best of all, I think Kerry can win what I think this is the most important election since 1932, when FDR won his first term.

4. I think he'll definitely give us environmental help, and that's great
Let's see if he'll surprise us all with some progessive stuff after he gets in. It IS a crucial election, that's for sure.

13. Have you signed the petitions

that the Kucinich campaign organized? They presented them to the Democratic platform committee meeting in Miami yesterday and today but you can still sign online as they will attempt to present them at the convention in Boston as well.

There are six petitions (one saying "Get the UN in and the US out of Iraq," one for universal health care, one to end NAFTA and WTO participation and ensure fair trade, one to repeal the PATRIOT Act, one for creating a Department of Peace, one for LBGT rights) and you can sign them all, just one or two, whatever you choose.

I'm hoping that Dennis's efforts to make the party return to its former progressivism will pay off. They will be lobbying in Boston for us! They also encourage phone calls, letter writing, etc. More info at:

16. I got an email RE: Miami
Our MN for Kucinich group has been VERY active in attending the DNC meetings re: platform and party direction. We're pushing hard to get the party to take a strong "US out of Iraq Now" stance.

Our designated DNC speaker spoke in Miami yesterday in front of the meeting, and gave a very strong speech in favor of adopting the pro-peace position. His was the only speech that got a STANDING OVATION from those at the meeting. I wonder how often that happens at platform committee meetings?

Right now, Democrats are still too "afraid" of playing hardball with Bush on his misrule, but things are coming around. Most Americans now believe that we're not doing the right thing in Iraq, and they want us to get out of there as soon as possible.

I have a feeling that Kerry will eventually come around to this way of thinking in the next couple months. I believe he's biding his time, waiting for BushCo to self-destruct some more, before jumping on them this fall. If nothing else, Kerry is a master politician and knows when to move and when to wait.

For the country's sake, I hope he does come out strong against the war, and commits to bring our troops home within a year, rather than four years. I hope he turns over the rebuilding of Iraq to a non-aligned third party. I hope he condemns US imperialism, and calls it out for how destructive it is to the world AND to the country.

He can do it, and he will, if he really wants to send the ShrubCo cadavers packing.

10. True, I think it takes both
I read a commentary somewhere (I wish I remembered where) that argued Kerry benefited by being the strongest contrast to Dean. Kerry's dull stability seemed like the best alternative to Dean's "out of control" comments and screaming. Without Dean, Kerry would never have gotten the nomination. That argument makes a lot of sense to me.

23. no, that's not true
i supported kerry from early on and followed his campaign. the support he got was from people who actually went to see him. iowa is one of the few states where people get to really know the candidates and meet them many times if they want. kerry won because they liked him on issues and the way he presented his story. much of what dean did was try to accuse kerry of being like bush. but people did not believe that because of kerry's history. and we also got more people to attend kerry events mostly through word of mouth. the people who attended his events loved him and worked hard for him. he was getting very good reviews from his events, especially the town hall meetings.

3. He's been "approved" to be president, and edwards is allowed, too
Got the bilderberger seal of approval, after all. So that's good. We can work with them, let's hope.

5. Yes, because anyone successful
who you personally don't like is obviously a puppet of some shadowy, world dominating organization.

7. He's smart, strategic and has worked HARD for 35 years
for the public good, both nationally and globally. He has investigated and exposed more government corruption than any lawmaker in modern history. His efforts helped to end three wars.

Kerry deserves this opportunity to do even more...what he knows he can do if given that trust.

8. Got lucky in Iowa, but has proven to be top notch since then
John Kerry was dead in the water. Dean was huge and Gephardt has support in Iowa. Then the Dean camp and Gephardt started a huge battle and went negative. Both were hurt by this and John Kerry came out in front. Kerry was lucky to have that. Since then though, he's done it all. Congrats Kerry. Can't wait to see you as President!

9. I am not so sure about the got lucky business even in Iowa
Yes, he was written off by the media and many others including myself. But he never gave up even when it appeared he didn't have a snowballs chance. Never giving up has nothing to do with luck. That is something completely different. It's a trait of a winner. Quitters can never win.

11. I followed the campaign in Iowa closely
and kerry worked his ass off there. he often stayed at events far longer than scheduled because he wanted people to get a chance to make sure they get their questions answered. he would do one on ones until everyone was satisfied. he was even sick when the caucuses were about to come up but he kept going out there in the cold snowy weather and trying to get people's support. the man IS GOOD .

15. I'm not suggesting that Kerry doesn't work hard/ didn't work hard in Iowa
I'm just saying that he was lucky to come out of Iowa on top. I think the reason he was down before the primaries had more to do with Dean-mania then anything Kerry had done himself. Certainly you have to admit that Kerry had some luck in the fact that Dean-mania died down. Kerry was good enough to climb up, but if Dean and Gephardt hadn't fought each other so hard, I'm not sure we would have Kerry as the nominee.

about winning this election as I do right now ! I was up till just a few weeks ago saying how I had wished the Dems hard a stonger person running . However some how picking Edwards seems to bring another demension to this tickets that does alot to compliment it ! For some reason ,even though I was/am a Clark supporter , John Edwards seems like the perfect pick. Also its very refreshing to see how the other Dems are uniting behind this ticket. Even Dean ,is working hard to make sure the Kerry/Edwards ticket succeeds ! Nader can go F himself ,he will not be a spoiler !! I never would have thought this possible a few months ago ,I smell a land slide for Kerry in the workings !
