Today on CNN- A Perp Named Kennedy vs Fly Boy Bush
Two docs were in CNN's line up today. The portion I watched of The Kennedy's involved a parade of extended family members scandals and trials- interesting to some, I suppose, if the relentlessly hyped first times around hadn't sated the scandal-hungry public.

Quite a contrast in tone from the piece on the REPUBLICAN. Oddly, there was no mention of the legal troubles of Neil or Marvin or Noelle or her brother or Jenna or Barbara or GRANDPA or Jeb's smuggler wife or Laura's driving record or George's brushes with the law.

When can *that* CNN Special be expected? This kind of pervasive, insidious, consistent bias is at least as damaging as Faux's brand of blatant disinformation because it's legitimized to an extent simply because it *isn't* Fox News.

Jeb Bush Remains in Public Housing -
Even Though His Family has Committed Crimes

Mauricio Rosas

<snip>

What's more is this policy is hypocritical! We allow Governor Jeb Bush to remain in public housing even though his family has committed crimes that would be sufficient reason for eviction. The crimes committed are: his wife Columba Bush smuggled $16,000 worth of clothes and jewelry into the US after a trip from France and his daughter, Noelle Bush, was arrested for forging prescriptions and abusing prescription drugs. If we were to enforce the one-strike-you're-out policy uniformly and without bias, current Governor Jeb Bush would be paying for his own housing and not using taxpayer's money. Instead he receives preferential treatment.

3. And his response was really fun-
Not!

So his wife comes home from Europe with tens of thousands of dollars worth of undeclared -- i.e. smuggled -- jewelry, and he says publicly, it's no one's business what my wife buys on a trip.

4. She tried to smuggle in $19,000 of fur & jewels
Undeclared purchases hid from Customs. She "apologized" though.

5. After a trip abroad, she tried to smuggle some expensive jewels back to
the U.S. and Customs caught her in the act. She made up a lame excuse "I didn't want my husband to know I'd spent all that money".

That was late eighties, early nineties.

7. I noticed that

I haven't seen the Poopy Fly Boy crap - refuse to have that garbage crammed down my throat - but I did have the Kennedy thing on while I did some stuff around the house this afternoon.

Talk about a scandal-a-thon. About the only one they didn't drag over the coals was Caroline (although they saved their most glowing praise for Maria Shriver and her knuckle-dragging husband).

Still, it was one of their trashy People in the News things, wasn't it? It had all the weight and analysis of an issue of People magazine, so our expectations shouldn't have been very high. Did you notice, though, that at the end Zahn sniffed the air as though she smelled something terrible? What a shrew that woman is.

8. I was listening to the Kennedy show from another room
Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 11:11 PM by neebob
It was People in the News with Paula Zahn. Never mind that none of the Kennedys are in the news right now, to my knowledge. There was certainly nothing in it that was news recently. The part about the scandals was a later portion, and incidentally I thought the part that followed about Arnold Schwarzenegger and the suggestion that he must be a good man because Maria married him was even more offensive. They forgot to mention his wild ambition (when Joe Kennedy had been described as wildly ambitious) and his collection of Kennedy artifacts like Jack's golf clubs that to me suggests a major obsession. Hello, Arnold is not a Kennedy.

Anyway, the main themes of the show were the Kennedys being American royalty and having been taught to give back through public service. I couldn't help thinking the Bushes must really hate that.
