"And before anyone says it is wrong for me to paint the left with this brush, who the fuck do you think you are fooling. When the KKK murdered 4 little girls in Birmingham, Alabama, he reamed out the entire hateful society in the south as having a hand in that murder. Likewise, the entire fact-distorting, hate-our-troops-left, with very few exceptions, allowed this atmosphere to be created. Every person who supported Michael Moore’s lying propaganda. Every person who did not shout down claims that Bush was a Nazi. Every person who allowed the myth to perpetuate that we did not do the Iraqis a favor. Every person who claimed that Bush lied to get us into the war, when you and I both know there was no evidence to support that claim. All of you had a hand in this, creating such a poisoned atmosphere that it became acceptable to treat a disabled vet this way. And you should all be ashamed for promoting this hate tonight. "

2. Odd that he'd bring up a "disabled vet"..
.. I do believe he is supporting (vehemently) the Party that viciously attacked Max Cleland, a disabled vet. The person who wrote that diatribe is mentally disturbed, obviously. I suppose he could be considered disabled, also.. though I'm not sure if he's a vet. Any kook that could equate the KKK to Michael Moore's movie, is obviously.. clinically.. disturbed. Best to let people like that fester in their bile, unremarked.

3. Ah but the way they treat Max Cleland, that was OK.
To quote Senator Harkin, "sanctimonious hypocrisy". (He used that phrase during the judicial fillibuster when the Rethugs were whining about "judicial obstructionism".)

The person that wrote this screed is a fine example of the mindset that is so brainwashed they easily believe black is white and up is down when told so by their masters. Poor fools.

At the link he's got a story about a 4th of July parade last weekend where a disabled vet was called a murderer and baby killer.

Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 09:53 PM by AZDemDist6
I hope we learned our lessons from Viet Nam and never do that to any returning Vets.

Whatever his politics, he (the Vet) has earned the right to speak his mind and march in parades

If we can't cheer, he at least deserves a respectful silence.

30. Who knows maybe that particular vet was all those things
Just because they are vets or disabled doesn't clear them from deeds they may have committed. I don't know the particulars in this case but it is possible that the person knew things we don't. Don't hold up all vets as saints just because they are vets. Pvt Lyndee is also a vet.

12. I've heard it all now
Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 09:58 PM by GTRMAN
Let's see, this guy is accusing "our side" for creating the "poisoned atmosphere"? I do believe I have heard it all now. They have had RW hate radio and FNC directing and mobilizing the brownshirts for how long now? And WE created the "poisoned atmosphere"? Here is one who is so far out of touch with reality he could never be reached in a million years.

I have seen this a lot recently, but this is probably the most extreme case I have seen yet. Deep inside, they know their party and ilk have led this country to the brink of destruction, but can't bring themselves to admit they were wrong. It is hilarious but also sad to see the members of the so called "party of personal responsibility" go to greater and greater lengths to place blame on ANYBODY but their blessed Reich*

I believe they are finding themselves in avery similar position to Judas, who betrayed Jesus for a mere 30 pieces of silver. The difference is, they sold their souls, patriotism and identity as true Americans for a 600 dollar tax advance check and a write-off on a new SUV. Should we wish them a similar fate as Judas? You decide

<edited to say> No, there is no excuse for anyone disrespecting any of our troops, we know where the blame lies for this war. If this guy thinks MM hates and disrespects the troops in F911, he obviously hasn't seen it.

15. speaking of Disabled Veterans
Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 10:01 PM by erpowers
If this person wants to talk about how we treat veterans lets talk about how Bush treats them. Bush is the one who gave three tax cuts to the wealthy and then said we could not afford to gave full benefits to veterans. In addition, Bush has not done anything to help the veterans who have to wait six months to a year to recieve treatment. All while Bush himself can go to any military hospital and get immediate help. Also, it was Bush and the Republicans who tried to cut hazard pay, cut some veterans out of the prescription drug plan, and sent troops to war without the proper equipment. If this person wants to be mad at a group of people he/she should be mad at the Republicans.
In addition, liberals did not put out the moveon nazis ad. That was the Republicans and now they are using to same ad on the Bush website. This person and other Republicans really need to start doing research.

18. Classic freeper double standard
Wherein a freeper "paints" the entire left with responsibility for the actions of fringe elements and assorted cranks, and then turns around and vehemently denies being complicit in creating an environment where abortion clinics get bombed and movie theatre owners get death threats for showing F911.

Meanwhile this column is getting passed around from freeper to freeper, so they can all howl another chorus of "the libs are spitting on the troops".

24. Hypocritical Assholes! Who'll Be Here For Those Vets? Eh?
These are the slime who turned their backs on the returning vets from Vietnam. Nope, they didn't call them "baby-killers" (and I was around a lot of Vietnam vets and anti-war people in the early 70's and NEVER heard that term even referred to...we all knew this war wasn't of their doing and they were the biggest victims).

It was the "American First" assholes who ignored the vets...passed over them for jobs and advancement as they didn't want to see nor deal with Vietnam, and they viewed the soldiers as the ones who lost the war. Don't EVER let those assholes get away without pointing that out. THEY painted the "Vietnam's failture was the military" rather than Nixon prolonging that war for his own political aims. And now they're doing it again.

We already have over 11,000 men and women who are sporting the physical and mental scars of this adventurism and one that will not go away when we wash our hands of this mess...whomever does it. If anything, with our military guaranteed to be in Iraq for at least the next year to FIVE years (don't think Kerry will be able to pull out that quickly...these assholes have really gotten us in deep shit here, and should be tried as war criminals for doing so) and I hate to say I'm willing to bet we'll have upwards of 50,000 injured by the time this sad event is said and done...and that's just the start.

Where will these assholes be when a vet, 5 years returned and in broken mental and physical health tries to apply for welfare or some other benefits program since he/she can't hold a job or live a day without thinking they're stuck in some berm in Iraq. And who'll be there to support them? I know I will, again. This is the troop support that is never discussed and a reason Disabled American Veterans are always toward the top of my donation list!

28. I'm skeptical of this story as well.
I just read the column the freeper linked to, and it raised my antennae. First, there was the issue of the announcer at the parade asking the question: "And what exactly are you a veteran of?" The mother of the disabled veteran claimed there was a sarcastic tone to the announcer's question; the announcer said she just wanted to know which war he was a veteran of, so she could "honor him" in public. I tend to agree with the announcer...he could've been wounded in either Afghanistan or Iraq, and that's a logical question to ask. IMHO, the mother read more into the tone of the announcer than was there.

Second, the son was walking behind a pro-Bush group, which the announcer descibed as "militant." My suspicion is that some in the pro-Bush contingent were baiting the crowd, and some in the crowd responded by directing taunts at the group, but not specifically at the disabled vet.

This guy, like most freepers, is in the later stages of denial now. With the rest of America waking up, they find fewer and fewer people to bother listening to their propaganda, so they have to scream louder. You don't think all of the citizens of Nazi Germany just woke up all of a sudden in 1945 do you?
