Linda Ronstadt booed for support of Michael Moore ?
I just got an email from a relative who recently saw a Linda Ronstadt concert in northern Virginia. When Linda expressed support for Michael Moore, this relative said, the crowd BOOED her. Fans booed her at her OWN CONCERT.

She apparently dedicated "Desperado" to Michael.

Things are getting harsh out there. Sheesh.

As for me, I'm seeing "F-9/11" for the THIRD TIME tomorrow. WOO HOO!

2. Go Linda!!!
Man, she has a great voice.

But more importantly, she voiced her opinion publically. Who cares what a bunch of half-wit, backwoods, Deliverance-aspiring freeptards think.. the woman has guts.

" ... Some yahoo in the yuppie Wolftrap crowd continued to boo her loudly all throughout Desparado, to the point that no matter where you were in the venue you heard him as much as you heard Linda. Exactly why he felt like he had the right to compromise 12,000 people's right to hear Linda sing because he didn't like her politics was unclear."

I'm not a violent person, but I think if I'd been there, I would have punched that guy right in the mouth!

16. one more piece of info ...
Another piece of info, from a L.R. forum ... someone at the concert ... which apparently drew some mucky-mucks in formal attire ...:

"The biggest excitement of the night, by a long shot, came when Ronstadt then dedicated her encore of "Desperado" to filmmaker Michael Moore, kick-starting a boo-cheer competition throughout the venue that drowned out her singing and left grown-ups in tuxes and evening gowns yelling at each other on their way to the parking lot."

Good lord. We're at civil war, people. And right near the site of the Battle of Bull Run, to boot!!!

back in the '70s. If this had (or could have) happened there, all you'd have to do is tell one of the bouncers and he would have done a lot worse.

Stuff like this just makes me want to buy another one of her CD's. How do you think I ended up with the Dixie Chicks on my shelf?

51. Ah yes, I remember it well
I had a teeming teenage crush on Linda at the time - remember the cover of Living In The USA? Roller skates and satin shorts? Ooh child!

What does she see in him?, lamented young I, harshly appraising Governor Moonbeam. Hormones are fun.

I'll bet the Virginia moran heckler remembers all this and went to Wolf Trap with disruption in mind. Why, he's getting back at her for saying "no nukes" in 1979. Fuck all y'all who paid good money to hear her sing, you're gonna hear me bellow. I am Freeper, hear me blurt.

Wonder if she's doing "You're No Good" these days ... she should dedicate it to Dubya.

12. I grew up in NoVa, but I'd sooner bite open a vein than go back....
Land of half-million dollar tract homes as far as you can see. It used to take me an hour and a half to commute each way from Sterling to GMU in Fairfax-- about 30 miles, maybe, as I recall.

OK, this reply has absolutely nothing to do with Linda Ronstadt, but the mere mention of Wolf Trap Farm Park reminded me of my misspent youth. Have I mentioned how glad I am to have landed on the left coast?

31. actually, when I was a kid it was still mostly rural....
I remember when Tyson's Corner was still all farm land, and Loudoun County was REALLY rural. I went back there for college when I was in my 30's, during the late 80's. Things had changed, to say the least. I'm trying to remember the call letters of the radio station I listened to-- very progressive, in Alexandria I think, but I can't remember now. More brain cells killed for the cause, no doubt....

34. It's probably changed even more since you left
The area between Tyson's and Dulles is soon to be solid offices and houses. Housing prices have doubled and tripled in the last 5 years or so because of the influx of people.

I'm constantly scheming how to lessen the commute thing. Mine is about 45-minute to an hour each way. From Alexandria to Chantilly.

where do you live on the west coast?

stopped mid-song and politely asked the "morans" to please stifle the noise in consideration of their fellow patrons. That would have received a huge amount of applause and put the booing idiots in their place. Considering what it costs to attend a concert these days, I'd be mighty pissed if a few dumbshits ruined the experience for me.

Are you sure that Linda was expressing disapproval of Michael Moore and the crowd booed that?

Because if she dedicated Desperado to Michael Moore, doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement from her. I would have booed, too.

41. As I understood it, she expressed verbal support
for him BEFORE dedicating the encore to him. And anyone who knows ANYTHING about Linda knows she's been a left-leaner throughout her whole career. She talks about liberal politics on half the talk shows she does. I saw her sing with James Taylor at a nuclear freeze rally in the early '80s in Central Park.

Desperado is just one lovely, kick-ass song. Don't think she was asking the audience to apply the lyrics, literally, to Mr. Moore.

30. Desperado lyrics ...
Edited on Sun Jul-11-04 12:12 AM by 2004 Victory
(I guess it would matter what she said to preface the song. Linda's always been a Democrat, so on reflection I'm sure she meant it as supportive of Michael.)

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
You been out ridin' fences for so long now
Oh, you're a hard one
I know that you got your reasons
These things that are pleasin' you
Can hurt you somehow
Don' you draw the queen of diamonds, boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet
Now it seems to me, some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can't get
Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no youger
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home
And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin'
Your prison is walking through this world all alone
Don't your feet get cold in the winter time?
The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine
It's hard to tell the night time from the day
You're loosin' all your highs and lows
Ain't it funny how the feeling goes away?
Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
Come down from your fences, open the gate
It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you
You better let somebody love you, before it's too late
