BAGHDAD, Iraq - A militant group linked to Jordanian terror suspect Abu Musab al-Zarqawi claimed responsibility Sunday for a recent attack on a military headquarters in Samarra that killed five U.S. soldiers and one Iraqi National Guardsman.

The deaths came the same day four U.S. Marines died in a vehicle accident while conducting security operations in an area of western Iraq, the U.S. command said Sunday.


I do not like that they are kinda not reporting the loss of life over there

'vehicle accidents'. I don't understand how there can be so many of them without there being something (like landmines) that are causing them.

When going through a danger zone, responding to an assault by enemy forces (either escaping from or going to), or some similar activity, the soldiers drive at dangerous speeds. A simple obstruction in the road -- and sometimes they're not even on a road -- or a too-quick turn can cause the driver to lose control.

Imagine driving a jeep down a dirt road at 80 mph with someone you can't see shooting in your general direction. That's how a lot of these happen.

Strictly speaking, they're non-combat deaths as the Pentagon defines these things. But, they're certainly combat related, which is why it is irritating the way these things are reported.

2. American active duty deaths could total 1100 by Nov. 3

An additional 2000 wounded could occur if current elevated level of violence continues. This is just a guess looking at the icasuality.org figures for the last few months.

Hundreds of Iraqis if not more no doubt will lose their lives.
