It is now time to lay the groundwork with "on-the-fence" aquaintances.
One vote at a time.

I just got another call from an aquaintance who is now firmly in our camp, and who will now help me register Democrats. She had a few conversations with me in Feb., and went last weekend to see F911.

This is how I did it. I talked very little about how Bush is bad for the country, a lier, etc., etc. What I did was talk about how he no longer represents Republican values. I talked about the massive expenditures for the war, the invasions of privacy via the Patriot Act, and the way the middle class was screwed by the tax cuts. (i.e., the tax cuts went to the wrong people.) I was very light about it and didn't dwell on the subject for long, and, in fact changed the subject before she was really fininshed talking about it. I waited for my opening and then left her wanting more.

Then I left her alone. And she began to think about it. She checked in with me when Kerry was nominated, and I was ready with every positive statement I could make about Kerry. (I had been a Dean supporter, I think she was looking for me to be disappointed. If I was I didn't show it.)

Anyone still on the fence has not been paying attention. These are not people who will respond positively to a list of facts or any other logic. If they were, they'd be in our camp by now. Here is the magic phrase: "I don't think that George Bush has been the kind of president you thought he would be when you voted for him in 2000. He has not kept his promises. I think it's time for a change."

I only have one more conversion to go, and this one can't go see F911 because she's recovering from a stroke and it's too much for her, I'm sure. I was a good friend to her during her recovery, and did many favors for her. She said that she didn't know how to thank me. I told her that if she wanted to thank me, she could give me 15 minutes of her undivided attention. I think I'll write a letter. Her big fear is that I think she'd stupid for supporting Bush. (Yes, that's true. But I won't win her vote by letting her know that!) Wish me luck!

1. I Try Not To Critize Bush Openly

But I arm myself with the facts and figures, inform my aquaintances with the facts they can verify themselves and let them come to their own conclusions.

I also add that Rush makes $25 Million a year as a Republican shill and "his" opinion isn't unbiased, drug free nor is it factual.

2. Yes, Rush is a factor in my last remaining conversion.
Her mother listens to Rush faithfully. And believe me, this woman is afraid of EVERYTHING! It's so sad to see a woman her age living in constant fear.

Her daughter, my friend, is headed down the same road. She listens to her mother's nonsense. Yes, giving a little heads-up on Rush would be a good idea.

3. Hannity, Savage And Drudge Are All Factors
So are the major corporations like GE owning and controlling the media to boost their war division or lessen the impact of "Corporate Crooks" like Ken Lay or Jack Welch on the average American.

And how many people feel that Bill Gates' investment in NBC and the politicians dosen't help him retain control of Billions in cash reserves?
