How the F**k did we get to a place where ANYONE would entertain postponing
the elections??? The drugged media stare blankly at the camera and report this outrage as if it's a viable option. Shit is falling apart fast in this country.

1. Exactly. The very fact that this idea is even being considered
is alarming in and of itself.

4. Well, if you begin your reign of terror
by stealing the election and then getting the Supreme Court to appoint you president, is it hardly surprising that you'd try to do this too? It's a familiar tactic of despots and dictators.

12. True that. It's "logical" considering who we are dealing with
but it should bother people that it's even considered....but then, selection 2000 didn't bother many people...the patriot act didn't bother many people...illegal war didn't bother many people.

and so on and so forth... :(

31. Isn't is sad...
when the state of our society is such that no one questions unethical election and war practices (and Bush says he is so damn moral)? It seems like the only people that DO question such things are not listened to. The people that raise these questions are not listened to, not by the media, not by the government. Only their fellow protesters, others that actually realize what has been happening and how truly fucked up the situation is.

2.  it's stunning...there is absolutely no outrage at all...
it's reported with no emotions, just as hitler destroyed Germany...just regular reporting as OUR civil rights are taken away...and NOW, even more blatantly than ever before...

nobody says anything...especially the potential draftees...just sitting on their couches staring mindlessly at their TV sets...

That's the number of total people who've ever signed up, incl. sock puppets, people banned repeatedly, etc.

I'm not God.

Sure you have to take all the Sifls & Ollies out, but you also have spouses and significant others of real people who balance out that withdrawal.

In short, I was using a convenient round number. Let's not forget the forest for the trees, hmm.

would easily set off a rebellion that could signal the end of democracy as we know it in this country.
WE MUST NOW ALLOW IT TO HAPPEN. WE MUST GET BUSH OUT OF OFFICE!!!

They must be convinced they won't be able to steal it again.<<

As I just posted in another thread... since the Diebold thingy has been revealed... since some places are requiring a paper trail... since therre will be no chads... no massive purge list in Florida.... and if the polls are even somewhat close.... they will have to take some other actions in order to hold onto power.

If they lose.. (big if) Cheney's energy task force papers will be fair game... perhaps juniors and seniors sealed papers... and all sorts of other issues too numerous to mention... up to and including a war crimes tribunal.... so.... there you have it.... they cannot afford to play fair... or start to play fair... now or ever.

I thought people were afraid of the communist bogeyman. But this new one inspires ridiculous levels of fear. It's pathetic. We've become a country of absolute chickenshits.

13. A Nation of Cowards
OUR SOCIETY has reached a pinnacle of self-expression and respect for individuality rare or unmatched in history. Our entire popular culture -- from fashion magazines to the cinema -- positively screams the matchless worth of the individual, and glories in eccentricity, nonconformity, independent judgment, and self-determination. This enthusiasm is reflected in the prevalent notion that helping someone entails increasing that person's "self-esteem"; that if a person properly values himself, he will naturally be a happy, productive, and, in some inexplicable fashion, responsible member of society.

And yet, while people are encouraged to revel in their individuality and incalculable self-worth, the media and the law enforcement establishment continually advise us that, when confronted with the threat of lethal violence, we should not resist, but simply give the attacker what he wants. If the crime under consideration is rape, there is some notable waffling on this point, and the discussion quickly moves to how the woman can change her behavior to minimize the risk of rape, and the various ridiculous, non-lethal weapons she may acceptably carry, such as whistles, keys, mace or, that weapon which really sends shivers down a rapist's spine, the portable cellular phone.

11. Let's Do A What If...
To say the bombings in Madrid swung the vote in Spain is overstating and saying it didn't have an effect is under-estimating. There has to be something set and best we have it out in the open.

For example, most the major news organizations have their election headquarters in a small section of Manhattan and other offices consentrated near "the hill". A power failure or other act could create a lot of election day havoc as the network could either be forced off the air or delayed in their reporting of election results. That's one scenario...what would it take to be a national emergency where elections would have to be delayed (NOT postponed) until the emergency passes and the voting can be completed according to law.

New York was attacked on 9/11, but had a way to stop an election in progress and then re-schedule it and prevent it from being abused politically. Wouldn't it be nice to at least have this rule out in the open.

It also innoculates us from another possibility the GOOP will go desperate and try to create an attack as a reason to affect the election...something we all know they'd never do. </sarcasm off>

14. It's the latest step in boiling the frog
they have been ever so s l o w l y turning up the heat since 9/11, figuring we won't notice as our rights are cooked away. Imagine if you had heard in 2000 that the presidents counsel had written a memo on how torture isn't torture and can be constitutionally defended. Think back on all the many, many little steps they have taken so far, and at each step, the media after some discussion finds a way to justify the latest outrage.

"Fear"

An American Populace that is so overwhelmed with
putting a roof over their heads and food on the table
and a society structured to keep them enslaved to
the corperate System (Think Health Insurance).

Spending far to much time away from their families
stuck in commute traffic listening to "Hate" on the radio.

16. isnt it interesting that....
right after 9/11, we were told to go about our business as usual because this will show we have not been defeated by the terrorists.

Now that Bush is in serious danger of beingf defeated all by his lonesome, he doesnt want things as usual. He wants to curtail one of our most basic rights....the right to choose our leaders. The hypocrisy is overwhelming.
