1999 Indie Film 'Predicted' Suspension Of 2004 Election

An independent political comedy/musical film made in Nashville during the end of the Clinton administration 'predicted' that the 2004 elections would be suspended.

Here's a snippet of the opening to the film, along with a transcription of the introductory dialogue:

"It's four more years for Bush! This is the Daily Truth Radio Network, I'm Marion White. Fireworks lit up the capital last night as revelers across the nation celebrated the Supreme Court's 5-4 decision to grant President Bush an unprecedented four year extension on his term of office. In addressing the Court's postponement of this year's election, Justice Scalia wrote in the majority opinion that 'another drawn-out presidential campaign would only serve to question the legitimacy of the president, thus giving the terrorists exactly what they want ..."

The film was made in 1999 and shown in several independent film festivals, but a national art-house distribution deal would not come until 2001, when Palm Pictures planned to pick the film up for distribution. The final paperwork was to be signed on ... you guessed it ... September 11th.

The deal was dropped, and the filmmakers have not been able to get a national distributor since then.

1. Awesome intro!
Would the makers of the movie mind if someone used this as a sample in music?

2. I Doubt It Would Be A Problem, But I'd Ask First Anyway

I've met a few of the people involved in the film, and they're really nice people. They're quite easygoing, and as long as it doesn't violate SAG, I think you'd get an okay.

PS: I'm not connected with this film in any way. Just thought I'd clarify that. :)

PPS: That sound you're hearing at the beginning of the film is not sex. :) It's a squeaky ceiling fan, and a man lying in bed having a panic attack.

PPPS: I think they still sell copies of the film on the website. Grab one and have a movie party.

4. Sounds like an interesting satire!
I don't know why anyone would think this film could not attract an audience, especially post-F9/11. I'd love to check it out!
