F911 tops $80 million....
Edited on Sun Jul-11-04 04:38 PM by RichV
New box office figures up at

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?sortdate=2004-07-10&p=.htm

Total to date $80,090,000

Trailing way behind Spidey, and now Anchorman. Trailed King Arthur for the weekend too, but that one looks like it'll fall quickly.

Oh -- and I saw Anchorman. Friggin' hilarious. Stupid, but hilarious. There's also a jab at Bush near the end that really got people in the theater applauding. Those who've seen it probably noticed already.

1. So? It's a documentary and wouldn't be expected to compete
Edited on Sun Jul-11-04 04:40 PM by tom_paine
with those other movies. Summer blockbusters and such.

F9-11 has done fantastically well for what it has done, the level of hype & theaters, etc.

4. Why should F911 be expected to compete with fiction films...
...produced to entertain and amuse??

F911 has already COMPLETELY smashed the old box office record for documentaries of $21.5 million set by "Bowling for Columbine".

In fact, F911 will probably top $100 million in the U. S. alone. Rentals and sales of DvDs/videos, as well as the revenue produced from overseas should cause the film to top $200-$250 million by the time it's done.

6. Sure hope so.
I was posting this as good news, not to put people on the defensive. It'll be great when this passes $100 million, and it should if it stays this consistently strong despite the big competition.

5. Thinking about going a second time, but Wolfwitz
sticking his comb in his mouth before combing his hair is about the most gross thing I've seen. Greasy, slimy, sick, no don't think I can do it.

7. Fourth place is Great for it's 3rd week out and placed against the
summer blockbuster season. Too bad for 'America's Heart and Soul' It places only at # 98 of the top 100 documentaries groosing just $221,429 since it's July 2nd release date.

9. A friend of mine saw that
America's Heart and Soul here in Atlanta. Said it was really enjoyable, but got no ideological msg out of it. I don't know all that much about it, but it sounds like it's just about regular Americans who do interesting things. Is that about right?

16. I have not seen it, but the media was billing it as the anti F911.
I'm not surprised to here that it was good, but the media definitely billed it as a counter film to Moore's.

11. While in Maine on vacation we saw F911
for the second time...I wanted my 11 year old son to see his government in action and the theater was PACKED on Monday, July 5th at 1:00 in the afternoon. We took our time getting to the theater because we had purchased our tickets earlier and wrongly assumed we would be able to get a seat. We walked in at 5 minutes before 1:00 and had to sit in the 3rd row from the front. The 2 other rows soon filled up.

At the end of the movie some guy stood up and said..."NOW, MAKE SURE YOU VOTE!!!" It was awesome.

12. Did you read their review? Crazy stuff...
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/reviews/?id=fahrenheit911.htm

Yipes, it gets an "F" despite the nitwit of a reviewer saying the movie posed some "interesting facts". :eyes:

I have yet to see F911 but I do have to wonder, if it's true, why didn't Moore ask WHY 9/11 happened? That'd have been a doozy. "They hate us for our freedoms." Which, judging by those in power (repukes, DINOs, CORPORATIONS), happen to be the freedom to lie, cheat, steal, and commit fraud, and indirectly kill. Moore would have had a winning point here and would have said it far more eloquently.

The Spidey 2 review was a bit cynical but now I know not to go see it...

14. Bunk review
Saw that before. odd for a movie with 90% positive reviews that won the Cannes. Maybe the author had an agenda. Whatever. Not like it matters what that pud thinks.

17. why didn't Moore ask WHY 9/11 happened?
I saw the movie twice, and as far as I can tell, the entire first 2/3 of the movie asks and answers that question. You will easily see this if you go see the film.

18. Ah... I was answering the bunk reviewer who gave it the "F"...
And either he isn't quite astute or ddn't bother seeing it all the way.

I will be seeing it this week at some point.

the back end on this one.

But you know Hollywood accounting.

15. So far it seems like F911 has legs.
I just did some quick math comparing the grosses of F911 and "White Chicks," which opened the same weekend as F911 and was its closest competitor then. On opening weekend, F911 ran ahead of "White Chicks" by margins of 9%, 25%, and 35% (Fri., Sat. and Sun., respectively). This weekend F911 is running ahead of "White Chicks" by margins of 70%, 76% and 63%. So, F911's dropoff rate in grosses is a good deal smaller than that of "White Chicks," though some of that may be related to F911's increase in number of screens. However, even with the increase in screens, F911 is still drawing almost twice as much per screen as "White Chicks."

Also, I went back and checked the daily gross figures from F911's first weekend, comparing them against this weekend's new films, and it looks like F911's pace then was slightly behind that of "Anchorman" this weekend and considerably behind that of "Spiderman 2." (I think "Spiderman 2" is in its second weekend, though.) F911 was, however, ahead of the pace of "King Arthur" this weekend.

I'd say it's succeeded beyond Michael Moore's wildest dreams. Let's just hope it opens enough eyes to toss the Bush regime into the dustbin of history.

19. No kidding?
Hard to believe that SPIDERMAN 2, a sequel to a hugely successful film, that is on 3000 more screens than FARANHEIT 911, is kicking F911's ass.
Sorry to be so sarcastic, but I had a (former) friend, who is now a Bush-Believer throw that in my face yesterday and I'm still pissed.
