Good in the midst of evil - My first F911 encounter |
|
Here’s a little background. My hairdresser Jeffrey is a white male in his mid-30’s. Married but no kids however he does have a 16 year-old nephew. Drives a huge SVU.
So anyway, I was getting my hair cut this morning and doing the usual small talk. I asked if he’d seen Spiderman 2 and he said no, but he did see F911. I told him I’d seen it also and his voice got low and he asked me what I thought of it. I hesitated a bit, because he has always come across as conservative, and I was not in the mood for a confrontation. After my initial hesitation I said, “I loved it.”
That’s when the dam broke. He told me how much he hated what Bush was doing to the country and not only did he see it once; he took his nephew to see it also. Turns out his nephew is thinking about joining the army and Jeffrey forced him to watch it so he could see what war truly is. He wants F911 to be required viewing for anyone thinking about joining the military.
I wish I could convey his sense of outrage; it was so intense I could almost feel his anger. As we continued talking, I found out he is an Independent who has not voted in 8 years with one exception. He voted to recall Davis and replace him with Schwarzenegger. He’s never paid that much attention to politics but he is so enraged now he there is no way he’ll be sitting this one out.
He knew absolutely nothing about the Bush administration, but after seeing the movie he is totally convinced they lied to get us to go to war in Iraq for their own personal gain. He was stunned by the Bush/Saudi connection and incensed that the Bin Laden family was flown out of the country without being interviewed. He commented, “If only 25% of the movie is true it’s still enough to prove to me that Bush lied about the war.”
As I left the salon his mother-in-law came in. He told her we had been talking F911 and the first thing she said was “How can so many people still support him with all the terrible things he has done?”
I feel a change in the air. As the truth comes out, the blinders come off.
Finally.

2. People are finally waking up |
|
I think that's what's behind the "postpone the election" crap. They know their days are numbered, and they're desperate.

9. "if only 25% of it is true..." What a great line! |
|
The wingnuts keep trying to discredit F9/11 with nitpicking.
That's the response.

4. So we have one more voter in California. ok, we will take it anyway. |
|
I have heard conservative pundits say that Bush would win France before he won California. But great! the more..you know.

It's not just about "one more voter in California." Prodemsouth, think outside the box (or coffin as Jon Stewart would say.)

5. I've been telling folks for months that the anger is just under |
|
the surface. It's out there, and it's real. I haven't felt anger like this since the mid 1950s, just before the dam burst regarding the civil rights struggle.
Take heart, people. We're about to be in for a wild ride if Bush thinks he's going to hang onto power by suspending elections or by stealing the whole thing again.

I recently spoke with two life-long Republicans (I know, but they're actually very nice people), one of whom is an elected official and bigwig in our small community. We got into a discussion about the 2004 election and one of them said, "At least you have a candidate to vote for." The other guy looked at his fellow Repub, laughed and said, "Yeah, I wonder what I'm going to do instead of vote on Nov. 3rd."
Edit: I should mention that this is in MO -- not exactly a liberal bastion...

17. I have a repub friend |
|
who is also very nice. She has a similar view; she can't bring herself to consider Kerry (her entire life she's been told Dems = Tax & Spend.) But she's sitting out this election because she can't stand *.

I sometimes take for granted how fortunate I am to live in a state where liberalism is the norm.

The only thing we have going is the fact that, if we win here, it's all over for them.

11. I have had almost the same experiance |
|
I have seen F9-11 twice. Both times I paid for the tickets for two die hard, blinders on Republican friends of mine. Both of them said they will not vote for Bush this year.
There IS something in the air. Change. We will soon have our country back.

12. I wish some ministers would come out |
|
and admit that they think Bush is the Anti-Christ. I've heard of a bunch of them being upset with him, but not enough real concern! ;)

13. Mainstream churches have dropped the ball, bigtrime! |
|
Bush is the antithesis of everything Christ taught, but they've been so afraid of upsetting registered GOPers in their congregations that they've been pussyfooting around all the horrors he's done.
It's high time to demand that ministers start addressing what the gutting of social programs, starting wars against nonaggressive countries, and robbing the poor to fatten the rich would have looked like to Christ. If they refuse, it may be time to find a new congregation.

Your right, they try to avoid anything political these days. I think they are scared of losing more attendence to the right wing churchs. They might gain more young people in their congregations if they were to go after Bush. On second thought, NO! - young uns today suck.
