Replace Cheney with Powell and America goes crazy stupid
with Secretary of State Colin Powell on bush ticket

Poll taken 7/8-9/04

Bush/Powell 53%
Kerry/Edwards 44%
other 3%

http://pollingreport.com/

That is a scary number - but bush won't do it . . . but something tells me Cheney's heart condition gets worse come September . . .

5. Powell is a laughable buffoon..
... IF this were to happen, the Kerry campaign could continually loop Powell's so called damning evidence against Iraq. Powell has no credibility. He's a joke, a has been, a punk-ass pit bull for the Bush crime family.

6. Anyone who thinks Powell wouldn't take it is smoking a pipe.
There is hardly a soul in politics anywhere who wouldn't accept the VP-ship if offered to them by an incumbent POTUS of their own party.

Powell would take it in a NY minute. And it would be big trouble for us.

All we can do is hope Bush is just too damn obstinate to part with ole crooked mouth.

11. He turned it down in 96
I just heard Jack Kemp on the radio a few days ago talking about how he was a second choice and he was only called when Powell definitively told Dole he was out.

Still, if he was willing to do Sec State, why not VP? Sec State is by far the more trying job.

23. Powell's wife doesn't want to campaign
He gave this as the reason. Not sure Powell would want to go through a presidential campaign either. A cabinet position may be a lot of work and may subject you to being a lightning rod for criticism, but Powell can handle those with no problem.

8. Oh, someone that can address the NAACP.
On the other hand, who could possibly trust him after his UN fiasco.

Karma tells me that I should wish something better for these * criminals. Perhaps they can be the first to colonize Mars. No, that's not good enough. How about Saturn? That would be a remarkable achievement and not as close as Mars.

12. So what should Bush's strategy be
in dealing with the NAACP?

I sure wouldn't advise him to give them any time or headlines. He's certainly not going to win them over.

10. When he was governor of Texas, he always
made a point of making sure that his ballot "Team Bush" they called it was well represented by minorities and women.

I will be surprised if he looks at the chance to do something historic, and then doesn't do it.

I not only expect Cheney to be replaced, I expect him to resign so either Powell or Elizabeth Dole will actually become the first ________ VP before the election.

17. Powell won't run
Remember back in 1992 when both parties were hoping Powell would run for Pres on their ticket? (Before it came out he was Republican).

He did not want to run because his wife has psychological problems--depression and other stuff--he did not want her to undergo the scrutiny and pressure of the campaign. If he had of wanted it--he would have gone for the top spot then.

I think he must be a nice guy in a way--to protect his wife that way. Some care only for power so much that they don't think about what their family has to go through. So that was good.

I don't think anything would have changed since then though...so I doubt he would do it.

AIM stands for AOL Instant Messenger. You have to go to their web site and download the program. It's a messanging program you have to install on your computer that allows you to chat with other people via your computer. You also have a similar registration process like you did here at DU. If you don't know much about computers, you may want someone to help you out, but the overall process is very easy. I am turning in for now, good nite... :hi:

25. Don't forget Condi Rice.
Don't know if anyone's done any polling about her potential candidacy, but a few months ago the rumors about town were that there was going to be a big switcharoo this summer which included putting Condoleeza in the #2 spot while still maintaining her position as National Security Advisor.

It would be a clever move, since racists and chauvinists really have no where else to go besides the Republican Party.

27. The scary thing is that the American public can be so easily swayed . . .
Don't they have any true convictions? Isn't the policy and the complete failure of this administration what is at stake here? Why would adding Powell make any difference except a thug like Cheney wouldn't be running things. bush and his cohorts would still be in power and everything will only get worse.

Why is the American public so easily swayed?

29. It is a sad state of affairs to see that poll . . .
It astounds me that changing a vice presidential slot could result in that much of a turnaround. That is a devastating testimony to the intellect of America.

Very sad . . .

28. One president was impeached for lying under oath about a sexual affair
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 10:49 AM by MetaTrope
So keep it in the public's eye that Powell lied under oath about arms sales to Iran.

The notes demonstrated that Weinberger’s early testimony that he had only vague and generalized information about Iran arms sales in 1985 was false, and that he in fact had detailed information on the proposed arms sales and the actual deliveries. The notes also revealed that Gen. Colin Powell, Weinberger’s senior military aide, and Richard L. Armitage, assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs, also had detailed knowledge of the 1985 shipments from Israeli stocks. Armitage and Powell had testified that they did not learn of the November 1985 HAWK missile shipment until 1986.

Powell's one of those who should have been behind bars after Reagan's presidency.
