Who will the Muslims vote for?
I got a real shock out of reading in "House of Bush, House of Saud" that Islamic organizations endorsed Bush in 2000, and around 90% of all Muslims voted for Bush. Those votes might have been crucial in Florida, the author says.

But what about 2004? Could Muslims still support Bush and his administration after all they have done? Or would they vote for Kerry, who recently voiced a more pro-Israel position?

I found an article here about the subject: http://www.wwrn.org/parse.php?idd=9655&c=55
I don't know if this a credible source, but the article suggests that Muslims will vote 2:1 Democratic as things stand now and Muslim organizations are considering endorsing Kerry, but "John Kerry's campaign has been less aggressive in reaching out to Muslims(...)" they say.

What do you think? Would Muslim votes be as important in this election as well?

1. They will vote Kerry.
The only reason most muslims voted for * the first time around was because Gore had Lieberman as his running mate. Muslims in general were very hesitant to vote a Jew as VP.

I however have no doubts in my mind that most muslims will be voting for Kerry this time around.

I was raised in an ultra-conservative Islamic home and my mom supported Bush in 00'. She now hates him very much. I finally got her to see the light!

2. Considering the Anti-Islamic Movement,
I doubt they're going to vote Republican again. Unless they're very rich and feel lower taxes are more important than civil liberties.

The administration has done nothing to curb the anti-Islamic trend in this country. Go take a look at the Freeper threads on the subject. The only good Muslim is a dead Muslim according to them.

Look at the discrimination anyone with a Middle Eastern complexion has had to deal with for the past three years. In the Arab world, there are several religions practiced. But with the administration's scare tactics and badly colored alerts, you could be an Arabian Catholic who goes to the same Church as the bigot down the street and s/he'd just think it was a ruse to try to blend in with non-terrorists.

So tell me. Would you vote to keep an administration who views you as a potential terrorist?

3. Good question

Kerry is very pro zionist, so I don't know whom they would vote for.

I would rather we return to Clinton's balanced approach to the IS/PL conflict.

I think in terms of civil rights and liberties though, KErry is the better choice for Muslims (and all of us).

4. The Arab vote
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 04:02 AM by CaTeacher
My husband who was Egyptian (dead from a heart attack last year) supported Nadar last election time. Most of his relatives continue to support Nadar.

He is an Arab, and is the only choice who is not completely under the control of Israel (in their opinion).

I will vote Kerry--but it is true that neither main candidate is sympathetic enough to Palestineans. I do not argue politics with my Egyptian relatives.

Edited--I had some typos that were obscene for a teacher to make! But it is late at night.....

5. John Kerry should tell them, "Do what every you want,
just leave me out of it." This election is Kerry's to lose, unless the election's rigged. My fear is it is. Nevertheless I will vote and hope for the best.

6. It should, by Team W's actions, be a slam dunk for Kerry
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 05:03 AM by Aidoneus
But instead, he is doing a great deal to shun this possibility.

On the subjects of Iraq and Palestine--to say nothing of Cuba, Venezuela, etc..--he represents not only a lack of difference, but a completely maintained path of regression and foolishness.
