The Real Threat of a Supreme Court Stacked with Arch-Conservatives |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 09:55 AM by JPZenger
This concern was described on the Unfiltered Show of Air America last week.
Whoever is elected in November will probably get to nominate SEVERAL U.S. Supreme Court justices. The current justices would be the following ages as of 2008 - at the end of the next Presidential term. Most of them will probably retire before then. Even if Justice Stevens would want to continue in office, chances are that a man who is 88 years old would not be able to continue.
Rehnquist - 84 Stevens - 88 O'Connor - 78 Ginsburg - 75 Breyer - 70 Scalia - 72 Kennedy - 72 Souter -69 Thomas - 60
The danger is that George the Second will be re-lected, and be able to appoint a whole set of 40 year old clones of ReichJustice Anton Scalia. We then will be stuck with those appointees for another 30 to 40 years until they drop dead.
Considering that most Supreme Court decisions are now 5-4, this is critical.
