Yet another anecdote on the turning tide...
I'm at the Continental QuickPack counter at Newark Airport this ayem waiting for the long line of dogs and cats to be checked in before I can pick up the package I'm expecting.

Woman at the counter ticks off the charges..

3 carriers at $45 each...
Fare at, blah, blah, blah...

And airport tax, fuel surcharge, security tax, federal tax, etc. taxes... comes to a total of $565.

"Isn't that incredible? Thanks to the taxes and high fuel costs, your cats cost more than you do to fly to Florida. And we're laying off like everyone else in this so-called great economy. Remember to vote against Bush this November."

Curiously, all the dog and cat people seemed to agree with her.

(It should be noted that many Continental people in Newark are particularly upset with Bush and the war. Humberto Timoteo worked there in cargo, and was a very popular coworker. He was called up from the reserves to go to Iraq, where he was killed by a mine last month.)

1. I am seeing and hearing the same things but
why does almost every poll show it a tight race?

2. So Diebold can steal it...
...and our wonderful media will say "See, we told you it was close!!!".

If it's NOT a rigged election, Kerry will take this in a massive landslide...

3. Absolutely!
There is no way that this will be a close election barring serious cheating. Having worked in the field of survey research, I can tell you two things about polls - 1) most people know so little about statistics that they can't tell reliable data from garbage, 2) almost all data is garbage, no matter how loud statisticians want to scream about it.
