um, i know that the 'postponing elections' horse has been beaten to death
and rebutted, but scan over this story in NEWSWEEK and tell me i shouldnt be afraid. for god's sake, its in newsweek now. this isnt like its VOX or prisonplanet or something. a mainstream news magazine has made an 'exclusive' article discussing the serious possibility of postponed elections.

4. what scares me more
If they do steal the election in some illegal and reprehensible manner - postponement followed by the constitutionally prescribed appointment of electors by the legislature (who would jeb bush pick if his state didnt get to vote?) if it happens - people SHOULD storm the barricades, but they are more likely to see what is on TV that night and not do a damn thing - if thats the case then we dont deserve a democracy.

15. It's not hard to do
As I wrote in my thread here,

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=1975399&mesg_id=1975399

I just think that people are not realizing how smooth and small this operation will need to be. There don't need to actually be attacks -- just intelligence about attacks. They don't need to cancel or postpone elections; just voting in a few key swing districts in key states.

Depending on what voting simulation computer programs predict, it might be something as small and seemingly "reasonable" as postponing voting in Cleveland for 24 hours because of "credible threats" of an attack on a voting station.

That may be enough to swing the election, if RW media then "calls" the election before the rescheduled polling.

12. pretty funny
Maybe you, me and the 30-odd people who were with me protesting
outside the White House on December 13, 2000 will be back in action.

Not to sound cynical, but NOBODY gave a sh*t LAST time the GOP
stole an election. If there is a terrorist act and they use that to steal
the next election, even LESS than nobody will protest.

2. If they attack a city on the day of the election
State Authority can postpone the election for another day:

TITLE 3 THE PRESIDENT

Chapter 1. Presidential Elections and Vacancies

§ 1. The electors of President and Vice President shall be appointed, in each State, on the Tuesday next after the first Monday in November, in every fourth year succeeding every election of a President and Vice President.

Failure to make choice on prescribed day

§ 2. Whenever any State has held an election for the purpose of choosing electors, and has failed to make a choice on the day prescribed by law, the electors may be appointed on a subsequent day in such a manner as the legislature of such State may direct.

6. Don't be afraid
Do everything in your power to prevent it. Contact your represenatives, write letters to the editors, talk about this to friends and acquaintances in reasonable, non-"paranoid" ways.

8. No such thing.
There is no such thing as bringing this issue up too frequently. BushCo is raising this issue the exact way the manufacture every other aspect of American political discourse. With a series of small, building inquiries, dropping it here and there into the collective consciousness, until it seems as if it was always on the table. Until it becomes synonymous with 9/11 and the War on Terra. Don't let it happen. Separate it. Demonize it if you have to, but never, for a moment, forget about it.

no vote-no work
to the streets is not gonna work. look at all the people in the streets before the war. it didn't work.
once they do it, they will not take it back. they have to know NOW what is in store for them if they try. not a threat, a promise.
postpone the election and face a general strike.

13. Elections
OK, lets stop and take a deep breath...

Nov.2 is along way off. The powers that be now realize that they have stirred up a hornets nest. We the people will not let are elections be hijacked. I'm feeling much better seeing how seriously the people are taking this outrage. You have to keep pounding the media and our Congressmen and Senators, non stop. God I feel like I'm back in the 60's. You could smell it in the air then.

11. newsweak is not as credible as VOX or prisonplanet.

Funny how the folks who speak the truth ahead of the curve are always cursed as tinfoil wearers.

The most fantasical propagandists are the corporate "news" media prevaricators.

17. DeForest B. Soaries, Jr.
"Soaries, a Bush appointee who two years ago was an unsuccessful GOP candidate for Congress, wants Ridge to seek emergency legislation from Congress empowering his agency to make such a call."

Interesting coincidence: I believe I saw Soaries on ABC News last night speaking against verifiable paper receipts from BBV machines that could be recounted in the event of a disputed election.
