Laci Peterson law facts.. help please...
Of course it sounds great that if a child is murdered inside the womb after it is able to live on the "outside" world by itself.. but what does the law state that is? what are the other down sides of this law.. I keep hearing from righties "shame on kerry for voting this down" or "well he (connor peterson) could have lived outside the womb by that time.. the mother made her decision to keep him by then"
I know I heard that there are other items in the law that arent getting any news just like the patriot act.. please could you let me know what they are tia!

1. Before I wrote a nasty letter to Fact Check, I got this.

It explains a little bit about the Laci Peterson Law.

Apparently pro-life groups lobbied for this law.

snip

What Kerry and 34 other Democrats actually voted against was the "Unborn Victims of Violence Act ." The new law recognizes an "unborn child" as a second victim if injured or killed during certain federal crimes of violence against the mother. The bill was backed by anti-abortion groups while opponents called it an attempt to undermine abortion rights. Kerry voted for an alternative measure to accomplish the same end but without making specific reference to an "unborn child."

Edited to add: Ed Gillespie said that fact check was a bush friendly sight, that is why I sent the email asking them to remove me from their email list.

3. The law is so badly written that it doesn't require fetal death
only "harm" to a fetus. That means the door is now wide open for a pregnant woman enjoying a rare glass of wine with dinner in a nice restaurant has to look over her shoulder for the fetus police, same for women who can't manage to quit smoking while pregnant. Of course, it's far likelier to be used against woman whose babies are born with traces of illegal drugs in their systems (those Federal crimes) rather than legal drugs, but you can see what the fetus police were after: total control of women, nine months at a time.

And Bush wonders why most women despise him.

4. No wonder pro-life groups were lobbying so hard.
If they can't get abortion banned the legal way, they will take the back door. You are correct, they want to control the pregnant woman. :puke:
