Fox News
Did any of you watch Bill O'Reilly's show tonight? I swear I heard a woman say that the "left" told her to what she wanted, so she had sex with lots of guys and had five abortions. I could have sworn she blamed the left for what is going on in the Inner City.

4. Yes, you heard right.
I wasn't watching but I was listening and I turned around to watch for a moment or two when I heard that, thinking I must have heard her wrong. She said the 'left' told her it was ok to be promiscuous and so on.

I wouldn't be surprised if one day a guest on O'Reilly says that democrats caused nasty weather or gallstones.

5. Yeah I couldn't believe it
It was pretty amazing, first she referred to the abortion situation in the black community as 'genocide' then she attempted to draw a connection between the left softening our moral values and the increase of abortion. She claimed that having the legal option of abortion makes everyone think that it's a safety net and as a result they have no need for personal responsibilty or using even the most basic safe sex practices. Then when questioned she admitted she had had four abortions which she blamed on the left wing making her just not care about herself or her decisions. Something to that effect, I was seriously blown away. Could the four abortions be somehow more directly link to have repeated unprotected sex? and perhaps not so much the fault of the left wing? I don't know.

PS, Alan Keyes was on Hannity and Colmes not 45 minutes later also using the same abortion in the black community 'genocide' line. Even O'Reilly pointed out that you can't really have a genocide when it's being done voluntarily by the people themselves, this distinction wasn't brought up to Mr. Keyes

8. Personal responsibility
Welcome to DU dignan27! :hi:

If they're gonna bandy about THAT catch phrase, then the woman could also blame George Bush's rush to war in Iraq (which showed not only a lack of personal responsibility to the security of America, it's troops, and American travelers going abroad, but a lack of sanity) or maybe blame Bush for not living up to ANY of his campaign promises.

Hey, if it's good enough for the Pres...

13. I have an idiot niece that says the same thing
The idiot got pregnant at 14, 16 and 17. Of course, since the family is in the Assemblies of God, abortion and birth control are no-nos. The idiot has exhausted her TANF benefits and now begs for food and yes the idiot votes Republican and blames Bill Clinton for telling her that it's OK to be promiscuous!

What a crock

what a wasted life!

6. That's a common right-wing tactic
They blame the women's rights movement, birth control, abortion, promiscuity, working women leaving their kids in day care, emasculation of men, the list keeps a-goin', they blame all this and every other "social problem" on the liberal left and its emphasis on personal freedoms. Gosh, they long for the good old days when women were barefoot, pregnant and submissive. O'Reilly buys into that--no surprise there!

7. I'd like
I'd like to know what happened to the personal accountability Republicans are always talking about. "The left made me have abortions because they softened our morals" is such bullcrap. She chose to freak lots of guys and get pregnant four times because she had no self control. No one tells me or influences my thoughts.

11. I agree...
It's bull, all right. What the Republicans want is not personal responsibility, rather they have a "no-sex" philosophy. If that woman had never had sex, she would not have gotten pregnant and had those abotions, so it's her own damned fault. Although, in the R's world, she would have had the children--it's her "punishment for screwing around", in their eyes--and never mind the struggle to raise the kiddos and how they would have suffered because of the lack of social services or male-parent support. As for the man being responsible--well, it's always up to the woman to say no, no matter what the circumstance, so all those male partners get a free pass!

I've been around this point of view for a long, long time but have never fully understood it. Once heard a man on a call-in show (local where I lived), where the subject was abortion, and he made the statement, "If a woman wants to act like a w****, let her pay the price!" That was when I first plugged into the fact that in these wackos' opinion, babies are, indeed, a punishment for a woman having sex. Geez! And of course it was a Christian radio station, so there ya go--just what Jesus would have said, I suppose.

Sorry--didn't mean to rant on. BTW, welcome to DU. Glad to have you on board. We need you!
