How long before "1984" will be filed in nonfiction?
Was in the bookstore today and was wondering.

1. It will remain in fiction
Once it has been properly sanitized, updated and corrected.

2. Well we need to have a nuclear war first.
Then we need to collapse into three distinct empire nations. Then some guy with the same name as the protagonist would have to be born, and... well you get the idea.

3. Funny you should say that...
I just occurred to me the other day that Orwell was only off by twenty years.

4. January 20, 1981.

6. I've read it twice.
Love it, just not in a John Ashcroft kinda of way.

8. I thought it already was...
Noticed the doublespeak early in the ramp-up to the invasion of Iraq: Cheny and Rummy are masters of it; Chimpy only apes. ;-) I mean, f'cryin' out loud: perpetual war & war is peace & slavery is freedom. I have not re-read the book in several decades, but it all started coming back -- like I'd fallen down some dark, dark rabbit hole where down is up. :scared: Starts to make you doubt your own sanity after awhile -- but then I discovered DU and met a few REAL tinfoil hatters!
