Letter from a conservative friend..
.. Okay, I have previously proclaimed that I don't keep conservative friends, but this guy was one of my best friends in high school over twenty years ago and is an exception to my no conservative rule.

After several years of being out of contact, I recently found him living, get this, about 3 miles from my house! I thought that you all would enjoy his words from a recent e-mail:

"It will be so fun to rake George Bush over the coals <conversationally/figuratively - as ari says, gotta watch what you say! -my edit>...after we do our catching up that is. I clearly remember your loathing of Ronald Reagan, and presume you hate King George at least as much! The man is just plain dangerous...it just makes me sad to hear Rush Limbaugh mindlessly defend the actions of this two bit dictator."

The Republican base is wavering, regardless of what the talking heads say.

1. Know a guy who used to be a Young Republican...
... in his callow youth, and he's kept in touch with his Republican friends over the years. Nine of the eleven he regularly emails are saying, "get this hopeless fuck out of office, quick!"

After hearing that, I say, what Republican base? :P

4. Bet the people in Ohio can make...
... guillotines in their basements, too.... :P

Hmmm, wonder what Wally O'Dell would think with a few pulled up on his front lawn? Think he'd want his money back from the Bush campaign headquarters???

:P

8. Could be a couple of reasons
One, if the Bushies ARE manipulating the polls by keeping the race tight - in other words "fixing" them - then it would be easier to fix the votes on election day because the race would have looked close all along. However, if Kerry was shown to have a huge lead through real poll numbers, then it would be a lot harder to fix it on election day. For example: What if Kerry is really ahead in the polls by say 58% or more, and then you have an election and Bush comes out the winner? People are going to know the election was fixed. Hell, you could have a revolution. However, if the polling is kept tight, then they can always massage the numbers without much notice, and just say it was a "close" election or say that Bush was the comeback kid in a tight election like Truman over Dewey. They'd probably even hype it up to try and make a mandate out of it!

However, if the polls are correct, it means he obviously has his religious base intact, is still doing well with the angry white male, i.e. Bubba vote, which coincides with still doing well in the South.

5. Now if only he would start to realize how dangerous Limbaugh is.
The day the Republican base catches on to that, we'll really be making some headway.

6. yeah--still listening to
Limbaugh YICK.

I had a job once (in grad school) where a co-worker actually listened to him! I could hardly stand it--it was my only exposure to the man.

(Whole office was freepers--could not get any sympathy for the two of us who were not--other guy wasn't bothered like me---very horrible situation!)
