The Reactionary Attitudes Toward Election Postponement & the Constitution |
|
Everybody is so up in arms about this whole "the election will be cancelled" thing. I mean, just because the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security talked about it a little, and some Bush appointee on a "federal election assistance" commission said that he'd like to have the power to suspend or cancel elections.
That doesn't mean it will happen. I think it has been fairly well established here in the last week or so that the Constitution specifically gives election powers to Congress and the states. And even then, the Constitution says that the presidential term ends on January 20 rain or shine.
So quit worrying about it.
The Constitution has spoken.
Just like the Constitution's Article II spoke when it smacked down Bush's attempts to steal the election and Florida and the nation went to Al Gore, 43rd President of the United States.
Just like the Constitution's First Amendment speaks when it disallows the infringment on the people's right to free speech and assembly with "free speech zones" that would seek to remove protestors legally exercising their rights.
Just like the Constitution's Fourth Amendment spoke when the Patriot Act was struck down for violating "the right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures".
Just like how the Constitution's Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Amendments spoke when they prevented the government from declaring people "enemy combatants" and denying US citizens life, liberty, and property, preventing speedy trials with a jury, the right to hear charges against them, the right to call witnesses, and the right to an attorney.
Just relax, fellow citizens. These Republicans might be evil motherfuckers, but at least they hold the Constitution sacred. They wouldn't dare do anything unconstitutional.
Right?

2. They 'hold the Constitution sacred'? |
|
- The Constitution/Bill of Rights are nothing more than words on paper to these wannabe fascists. Like must autocrats and despots...they make up their own rules as they go along...while simply ignoring or bypassing laws that get in their way.

How else do you explain Gore winning, the abolishment of "free speech zones", the fact that the Patriot Act was nullified, or the fact that Republicans didn't try to keep US citizens locked away indefinitely without trials or access to lawyers?
Silly.

Court, may I add the mainstream media in large part, for all have paved the way for the wannabe dictator who is said to have said being dictator would be easier? They have all subverted our Constitution, their oaths of office/their patriotic duties by supporting a cabal which was asleep at the switch on 9-11, led us to seemingly unconstitutional and disastrous pre-emptive war, and gave us destructive environmental and fiscal policies. And they cheer for four more years!

That's why I dig for the law. Unfortunately, the Democrats in the Congress have yet to evolve a spine so the law never seems to get enforced.

until these criminals are out of our house! When Bushco starts inquiring about postponing elections, you bet I'm going to be nervous.
I mean, absolutely nothing came of their inquiring into bipassing the Geneva Conventions. They were just curious, right?

9. I hope you are right and I try to believe |
|
that what you say is true. I want to believe it. But then I wonder why all this media coverage about the plan to postpone the election if there is a terrorist attack? Why so necessary to cover it and make it so known? I can't help but wonder if this is a way to get people "used" to the idea and accept it as "normal" so that when they do pull a fast one, few people will complain. I hope I am wrong.

18. If congress gives them the |
|
power to postpone elections, we will then have a dictatorship! Go the the last few entries of the Plame indictment thread 6 and help us with a letter writing campaign to stop this from happening. Bush has the war powers, the power to declare martial law, and if he gets this power we're done.

Nice! Wish you'd have posted this yesterday, when the other threads were saying 'stop worrying, it's no big deal'... lol... as if!
I called my senators & reps and told them if we postpone or cancel the terraists win! Said it was the dumbest thing I'd ever heard, and I urge everyone here to call your congresscritters and tell them what you think!
