2. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, they say. He is an example. |
|
There is no end to what he'll do with any power he's given. We must get him out of the W.H.

"Environmentalists are blasting a Bush administration proposal to lift a ban on logging in remote areas of national forests, saying the move ignores popular support for protecting forests....... The rule would replace one adopted by the Clinton administration and still under challenge in federal court. It covers about 58 million of the 191 million acres of national forest nationwide."

7. It may be misunderstood |
|
That in 1999 an outgoing Pres. Clinton, in one of his last official acts, rendered millions of acres of national forests permanantly safe from road construction.
Big timber lobbies immediatly began finding ways to overturn the ban. They didn't have to look any further than Buxh's oval office.
This new legislation replaces Clinton's ban.

9. This has been burning my ass since Buxh made that speech |
|
...during the wildfires in Calif. last year.
Then he claimed that the only way to save the forests was to turn them over to timber companies.
The loggers can't cut down OUR trees until SOMEONE builds "Maintenance roads" into OUR national forests.
Well...why don't we taxpayers build them. And it seems a good idea that we taxpayers not be allowed to use these roads, as it wouldn't be safe to share them with huge 18 wheel log trucks.....Bastards.
While we're at it, How much are the timber tycoons going to pay for this lumber, and to whom ? A: NOTHING and to NO ONE !
Why don't we taxpayers just go in and cut them down ourselves and pay the corporations to sell the lumber to us.
Damn right I'm outraged !!

I don't think he turned the national forests over to the timber companies. Didn't he say that we were going to manage our forests the way Europe manages theirs? Selective lumbering in areas to make fires more difficult? Cut undergrowth and the lumbering would be in strips to make fire breaks ... and it wasn't just going to be cutting full forests down? I also read about replanting trees after they were cut.

15. In fairness, Buxh claims to target "old growth" timber |
|
Which coincidentally are the most profitable for timber companies.
Unfortunately, these trees are located in places heretofore unaccessible to logging equipment.
That's where you and I come into play....Since the areas are on taxpayer owned property, WE will have to build cleverly named "mainteinance roads", to give these stalwart servants of the public access to their bounty.
In the past timber companies have replaced trees with young saplings on PRIVATELY OWNED property. This was to insure future harvests.
Do the lumber barons have the integrity to do this on OUR land... We'll see, but with this admin's history of allowing "voluntary controls". .....I'm skeptical.

10. I had a bad dream that woke me up this A.M. |
|
I dreamt that my favorite campground in the Mt. Baket/Snoqualmie Nat. Forest was totally denuded. Now, I know that is unrealistic, but living up here really brings it home how damaging unrestricted timber harvest can be.

Between him and his evil reptilian lizard sidekick from another planet, CheneyFuck, it's almost to much to take.
In fact, combined with the hot weather I'm peaking in disgust. I don't know if I'll make it to November without blowing a gasket.
We actually care about our forests here in Oregon and I cannot find words strong enough to express my disdain for this measure.
