1. When do the Dems get to speak?
Orin Hatch spoke just prior to this dude. Being from KY, I get to vote for the state amendment. I will vote against anything that takes rights away from any group.

4. Dems haven't been trying to speak
They could if they wanted to but they haven't. Over the past two days only Dianne Feinstein of California and Patrick Leahy of Vermont have spoken compared to republicans Kyl, Bunning, Hatch, Santorum, Allard, Sessions and Cornyn; I might be missing someone else.

7. they're on today...
Feingold is tearing them a new asshole, on everything from them not submitting the amendment to the judiciary committee to the actual relevancy of the debate.

I hope we see alot more of this guy.

3. He sounds like a nutcase.
At least Orin sounded sane. He even advocated (more or less) civil unions. But this guy, who is sadly my senator, is a complete reactionist.

5. The Dems aren't speaking because . . .
. . . they know the RW doesn't have the votes to pass this dog. Waste of time. Let the idiots vent all they want.

6. They could still speak up for themselves. Good practice, you know...
especially considering how out of shape they've been on that score.

8. I hate John Cornyn

He's such a prick.

Every time he takes the floor, he takes the opportunity to take a hatchet to Kerry.

9. Some Dems did speak....and strongly!
Boxer did a good job as usual, but the most eloquent discourse that I have heard in many, many moons came from Sen. Dick Durbin, Illinois. He said this whole attempt at passing an amendment is only an attempt to "change the subject" right before the beginning of the Dem convention. He accused the repugs of trying to get the spotlight off of the subjects that are changing the minds of the American public about who they want to lead them. He went on and spoke in length about our Constitution and about tolerance and prejudice....extremely erudite and convincing. If you can watch a replay of his speech, do yourself a favor and watch it! (I'm so proud of him, and I'm not even from Illinois)
