A couple of thoughts on the timed capture/kill of OBL |
|
Edited on Tue Jul-13-04 03:43 PM by iconoclastic cat
A couple of ideas which any/all DUers should feel free to dispute:
1. Read up on the pervasive sense of humiliation that has infected Middle Eastern culture. Also remember often the only way that the governments in that region can maintain control is by directing their citizens' outrage onto the conquering infidels. Capturing and parading OBL (dead or alive) would be akin to capuring and abusing one of our spouses: we would lose our minds with rage. Also read up on the respect with which the Muslim culture treats the remains of its dead--if OBL's corpse is paraded around the media, that rage will be magnified to the power of N.
2. OBL has repeatedly stated that he planned to die as a martyr. I highly doubt he could be talked out of it, much less caught unawares while on the can (or hooked to a dialysis machine).
On edit: One more thought: trotting out OBL, as a corpse or shackled, during the period between now and the new year does not make sense if you are actually worried about an attack. There are an awful lot of targets for retaliatory strikes (in the US and worldwide) between now and 2005, so the best thing would be to keep him on ice until things around here cool down.
