NY Times Headlines Do Work of RNC. Frickin' Whores!
"Bush Forcefully Defends War, Citing Safety of U.S. and World"

Now why wasn't "Stubbornly" or "Bone-headedly" the Times' adverb of choice there? :grr:

1. "Forcefully" seems a fair and unbiased word to me.
If they had said "stubbornly" or "valiantly" I would say that the headline was biased, but "forcefully" seems non-judgemental and unbiased to me.

6. What does forcefully mean?
Edited on Tue Jul-13-04 03:49 PM by BurtWorm
force·ful ( P ) Pronunciation Key (fôrsfl, frs-)
adj.
Characterized by or full of force; effective: was persuaded by the forceful speaker to register to vote; enacted forceful measures to reduce drug abuse.

It's a biased term. It is a total stretch to call it unbiased.

As unblock asked: Why use any adverb in a headline? Why not just "Defends War?" Why give the fuckin' impression that your paper was persuaded by the defense?!

9. I think they got that from Cheney, who -
defended his F-bomb by saying "I expressed myself forcefully and felt better" In other words, Bush must have told them "go F yourself"
