You're in the Air Force-NO, ARMY!- now.
Just on CNN.
Truck driving sergeant just killed in Iraq.
He's not Army, he's AIR FORCE.
500 members of the Navy and Air Force have been dragooned into Army slots to take up some of the slack.
Semi-quote-"The pentagon just had no idea of the intensity of insurgent attacks."

So...your an enlisted guy or non-com in the Navy or Air Force and you're figuring "Well, at least I ain't gonna be 'boots-on-the-ground' over there."

Not so fast, Smedley.
:grr:

4. Vietnam era Urban Legend
Supposed to have happened in Dallas or was it Oklahoma City?

Bunch of newly snagged draftees think they have it made, they got into the Navy instead of the Army. Big burly Marine strides up and says I need 6 volunteers. Six guys get up, he forms them into a line and says "Gentlemen, Welcome to the United States Marine Corps" then he marches them off into a bus for Camp Pendleton.

6. That's bogus!
I was a draftee and can tell you from experience - NO draftee ever volunteered for anything! Why do you think we were drafted in the first place?

10. No argument here,
I called it an "urban legend". Probably much more a lesson in why it's always a bad idea to volunteer for anything.

11. Here is the way it happened at the Atlanta AFEES station in 1968.
I saw it happen to a roomful of draftees. They lined up and counted off by fives. Every man with the number 5 was told to take two steps forward. The sergeant then said to the 5s, "Gentleman, welcome to the US Marine Corps."

14. There were draftees in my USMC boot camp platoon in '65
At atleast one induction center some "funny" NCO asked them: "Anybody here that doesn't want to be in the Army?" The poor guys that raised their hands were informed that they had just "volunteered" to be drafted into the Marines...

Airman dies in attack on convoy in Iraq Air Force on the ground!

By Rod Hafemeister
Times staff writer

SAN ANTONIO — An airman working convoy duty with the Army was killed in action July 11 when insurgents attacked the convoy, Pentagon officials announced today. Staff Sgt. Dustin W. Peters, 25, of El Dorado, Kan., is the first airman to die in the convoy support operations, begun earlier this year.
Peters deployed to Iraq from Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark., in February. He was assigned to the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing and attached to the Army’s 494th Truck Company at Balad Air Base, Iraq.

The Air Force has been providing transportation specialists to assist the Army, which is short on truck crews. At Little Rock, he served as the noncommissioned officer in charge of equipment support for the 314th Logistics Readiness Squadron.

“We lost a valuable member of the Little Rock Air Force Base team and our Air Force family,” said Col. Joseph Reheiser, commander of Little Rock’s 314th Airlift Wing, in a prepared release. “Sergeant Peters will be missed, but his dedication and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

8. Well, so glad we don't need a draft
We got all the soldiers we need! Just take them from the Navy and the Air Force. Sure hope none of them terrorists have boats or planes.

13. Friend's daughter in the Air Force.
She's in air traffic control, in Iraq now.
That I could kind of understand. She's with her Air Force unit.
But truck drivers "drafted" from other services into Army slots?
Oh, and thanks for the article about the airman.
That's the guy CNN referred to.
You guys are amazin', as always.
