Things are looking up
I was talking with a friend of my Dad's tonight. He is originally from SC, Republican, did three tours of duty in Nam, and just recently retired from the Navy. We started talking about Iraq, and I told him that no matter what anyone thinks about being over there, right or wrong, the fact is we are there and with our men and women in harms way, they deserve nothing but the best as far as intel, armor, weaponry, staffing, etc... and they're not getting it. He then blew me away...

He said his son was in Iraq right now, and he had to buy his son body armor, soap, and toothpaste because he couldn't get it over there. He then went on to say that when he was in Nam it was a messed up war, but compared to this mess in Iraq, Nam was a well oiled machine. He is sooooooo pissed at the Bush Administration right now he can't see straight. As he said, they have put his son in harms way and have done nothing to protect him.

He said he's not sure how Kerry will handle Iraq, but it can't be any worse that what Bush has done, so he's going with Kerry. I began thinking, I wonder if other parents feel the same way. I just took it fro granted that relatives of our service people would automatically go for Bush. Could it possibly be that the parents, wives, husbands, whatever of our service people will vote against Bush because of his administrations mismanagement? If Richard is any indication, Bush is indeed in some serious trouble.

I am beginning to think so...

2. My nephew will be going to Iraq in August...
and he has been on the internet perusing what Marines who have returned are saying they needed over there. He definitely wants a Garmin Rino 130 tracking device, which I told him I would get. Damn thing runs about $250, but apparently if you get separated from your buddies, this is the thing to have so you can figure out where you are and where they are. He has a list of things and the whole family will be chipping in to see that he gets what he needs. I don't think he'll be voting for Bush, but, as he says, he will go where he is ordered to go - a very proud Marine with only 5 years to go to retirement. A good man.

3. Keep talking to folks with kids in the services
and remind them that because the administration allowed/encouraged torture at Abu Ghairb and elsewhere that policy will put THEIR son or daughter at risk.
Joe Biden said that when questioning Asscraft.
Keep hammering the point.

Only coward cancel elections.

4. and add this to a war that's making us less safe ...
it's one thing to have a sense of honor about protecting the country ... but where are military families left when they don't believe the war is being fought to protect our country?

most of the recent polls show that Americans believe we are less safe now, not more safe ...

and even if we recognize the heroism of those serving in Iraq, we cannot deny that bush has swung from one vine to the next to the next trying to find a justification for his invasion of Iraq that will sell ...

we were lied to by this administration ... bush lied and soldiers died ... and they're dying still ... military families know when they've been had ... all this and the knowledge that Kerry served with honor ... bush is going down ...
