Good morning fellow DU'ers, I was wondering what's up with the Lincoln bashing? Is it from the "If I could save the union by freeing slaves I would do it, if I could save the union by not freeing the slaves, I would do it?" Because that quote is always taken out of context and never finished. Also although Lincoln was a Republican the first time he ran, he did not let his party abuse him and was hated by those within his own party line. Finally, I call myself a stone cold left liberal and I will support whatever party or candidate stands for the liberals, and now that means working for the Democratic party (of the mainstream parties). If I lived in the 1860s I would have voted Republican Lincoln but now it's different. It doesn't make sense to hate a guy who was part of a party that existed over a hundred years ago. What do you guys think?

Abe around here. As you can see, I'm a fan. The quote below about labor is one of my favorites, but the man was brilliant ,courageous and selfless. I'm a teacher, and when we learn about Abe on his birthday, the kids react to his story very strongly. His life and accomplishments translate very well to 2004 minority children today.
