Heard a devout Repub friend of mine say to another Repub..... |
|
Edited on Wed Jul-14-04 12:07 PM by TexasSissy
Repub friend #1: "....think Kerry's going to win."
Repub friend #2: "Kerry's going to win?"
Repub friend #1: "That's what they say."
Then she saw me and shut up (she knows I'm a Democrat). Repub friend #1 is a hardened Bush supporter who never gives up the ship. So for HER to say that, well, that means that even among his base (here in Bush country), they're worried.
Heh heh heh heh. Just thought you'd like to know.
(edited for typo...when WILL I learn to type?)

Everything is going as planned!
That's great news. Not only are people jumping off of the fence, but the fence has been dismantled and put back in the shed!

4. I'm waiting for my new T-shirt: "Pave the Earth, Vote Republican" |
|
to arrive in the mail. Ordered it a few days ago from "The Irony Curtain" or some such site. I plan to wear that around and smile a lot.

a lifetime of straight reactions to ironic comments has shown me that people don't get irony. They'll probably think your shirt is serious, though it's fine to wear it of course.
In reverse: I saw a dozen of the "God Hates Fags" maniacs from Topeka, KS in a little protest box near Ground Zero on July 4th and it took me a stroll around the entire property to realize, on second look about 30 minutes later, that this was not at all meant ironically. They were from the Church of United Baptist Idiots (or something) and drove from Topeka to New York extra special do this on the 4th of July. Their other signs that said "God Hates America," "Thank God for Sept. 11," "Fear God," and "Sept. 11 - God's Gift to America." (Meaning, the big G struck down the Towers because this country tolerates gay people.) They screamed at everyone who approached them. I asked if they were kidding and the fool bellowed at me, "Here's a jackass who hasn't read one word of The Bible!" I then went journalistic-neutral for as long as it worked to get at least this modicum of information I now present to you. Did they have any literature, did they want to persuade anyone? Hell no, they were bearing witness as God commanded. All must fear God. Go to the website, they said (godhatesfags.com, but it's not currently operative. Hm, maybe a joke after all?! Nah, these pokes weren't the Internet savviest.)
The saddest part was the three children, who also held signs. I imagine at least one of them will escape and write memoirs about her insane family one day.
So tell me, how is satire possible? How do you top that with irony?
