Bush bashes gays, McCain throws them a bone. That way, those who hate Bush but still want to believe they are Republicans can feel better about voting for Bush.

Just another way the Republicans pander to all sides.

4. It's true
From a true conservative's standpoint (which I am not, just assuming the role in my argument), same-sex marriage is a decision entirely up to the states, whether you support it or not. Those Repubs who voted no for debate over this ridiculous amendment are voting from a truly conservative standpoint. This is not an issue that should be of concern to the federal government.
