you really aren't going to believe it, from a New Yorker article on Obama:

Jan Schakowsky told me about a recent visit she had made to the White House with a congressional delegation. On her way out, she said, President Bush noticed her “obama” button. “He jumped back, almost literally,” she said. “And I knew what he was thinking. So I reassured him it was Obama, with a ‘b.’ And I explained who he was. The President said, ‘Well, I don’t know him.’ So I just said, ‘You will.’”

You know the answer to that. The movie "Revenge of the Nerds" was about exactly what you describe, right?

I don't think it's MOST! The ones that do fear smart people, are the dumbasses who become lockstep conservatives. The ones that respect intelligence and education are average people who are likely to be thoughtful voters.

So, in the average group, 50% are dumbasses, and 50% are thoughtful. That's why the country is evenly divided. The average folks are divided evenly across both sides of the "dumbass" line.
