MoveOn.org TV ad: 'Who on earth would fall for THAT?'
Are you seeing this ad on the stations you watch? MoveOn.org is trying to get people to focus on Dubya's cynical use of "values" issues to avoid the real issues working families care about.

I just saw it on CNBC for maybe the tenth time, and every time I appreciate its brilliance even more. I think it's the best thing MoveOn has done, by far. Talk about your kitchen table issues!

A middle-aged couple is sitting at their proletarian kitchen table having coffee. They mention Bush's phony "tax cuts", skyrocketing health care costs, overseas job outsourcing.

Husband "He's against gay marriage. Whooooo!"

Wife: "Who on earth would fall for THAT!"

What do you think of this ad, if you're seeing it?

1. I saw it this AM in Orlando
Edited on Wed Jul-14-04 03:26 PM by orlandoFL
forget which network...
It went with the point that Dems have been hammering all week: There are too many other important things to be dealt with.

I *wish* it would have spoken to the civil rights issue.

20. I'd wager that George Soros makes sure local TV time buys
are targeted exquisitely well. It's his money, and I'm glad he's spending it on getting rid of The Smirk and The Sneer.

FL, NC, MO, MD, and other states up for grabs should see this ad a lot more often than UT, TX, MA, and other states that are "in the bag" for one candidate or another.

9. I've never seen the MoveOn ad contest entries. Which do you think were better?
I don't know if 'Who on earth would fall for THAT?' was a contest entry. Does anybody else know? Which contest entries do you think outshone 'Who on earth would fall for THAT?'

10. I've seen it several times on CNN over the last few days
Its excellent. My only complaint: when the woman is talking about Iraq, she says "all that money". I wish she'd said, "all those young lives"

12. But they are targeting the Independents and Conservatives
All they care about is money. If the ad had been geared toward liberals it would have been about lives not money. It is the main difference between the two ideologies. We care about people and lives while they only care about money.

19. Have you seen Carville's book on the 1992 Clinton 'War Room'?
It's called, "Buck Up, Suck Up . . . and Come Back When You Foul Up : 12 Winning Secrets from the War Room". You can browse through part of it online for free at http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0743234480/ref=sib_dp_pt/103-8699928-1040625

17. Do you think that omission was intentional?
The script goes something like,

"No WMDs in Iraq. And all that money!"

Bill Clinton got into the White House only because James Carville, Paul Begala, and the rest of the 'War Room' kept hammering "kitchen table issues". Remember the poster on the wall in the War Room?

(1) It's the economy, stupid

(2) Change versus more of the same

(3) And don't forget health care!

It worked in 1992, and I'd put my money on it to work again this year.

14. It's okay.
But I like the Cheney-Halliburton one they have at www.moveonpac.com better. They're raising money to get it on the air in battleground states.

22. Do you think Kerry/Edwards have a real chance to win in Alabama?
Never been there, don't know much about it. But I know Huntsville is New South, and, as the people who spawned MLK, I surmise African-Americans in AL must be organized.
