Happy Bastille Day !
To our French posters, and francophiles everywhere. Happy Bastille Day!

Ive never been to France. but it sounds like a place id like. I do like the food, the wine, the cheese, the art, the architecure, and just the joi de vivre and panache the French seem to have (at least from what I see on TV & movies)

Liberte, egalite, fraternitie!

You have to go to France at least once.
If you go, PM me and I'll send my beginners guide to Paris. It's one of the most civilised cities in the world, with very friendly people.

9. Happy Bastille Day!

"We announce to the world the true principles of our actions. We wish an order of things where all low and cruel passions are enchained by the laws; all beneficent and generous feelings awakened; where distinctions arise only from equality itself; where the citizen is subject to the magistrate; the magistrate to the people, the people to justice. Where industry is an adornment to the liberty that ennobles it and commerce the source of public wealth, not simply of monstrous riches for a few families. We wish to substitute in our country morality for egoism, probity for a mere sense of honor, principle for habit, duty for etiquette, the empire of reason for the tyranny of custom, contempt for vice for contempt for misfortune; the grandeur of man for the triviality of grand society. We wish, in a word, to fulfill the course of nature, to absolve providence from the long reign of tyranny and crime."

Maximilien Robespierre

Allez sortons le gouvernement
impunité zéro pour notre president
Il est surement plus coupable
que la misère des enfants
qu'il veut enfermer
en bon dirigeant

Allez sortons le gouvernement
il faut avancer ont est intelligents
On va user les pavés
On va user les pavés
On va user les pavés
et ils vont reculer.

On va user les pavés
On va user les pavés
On va user les pavés
et ils vont reculer...

Bastille Day

There's no bread, let them eat cake
There's no end to what they'll take
Flaunt the fruits of noble birth
Wash the salt into the earth

But they're marching to Bastille Day
La guillotine will claim her bloody prize
Free the dungeons of the innocent
The king will kneel, and let his kingdom rise

Bloodstained velvet, dirty lace
Naked fear on every face
See them bow their heads to die
As we would bow as they rode by

And we're marching to Bastille Day
La guillotine will claim her bloody prize
Sing, o choirs of cacophony
The king has kneeled, to let his kingdom rise.

Lessons taught but never learned
All around us anger burns
Guide the future by the past
Long ago the mould was cast

For they marched up to Bastille Day
La guillotine claimed her bloody prize
Hear the echoes of the centuries
Power isn't all that money buys

(Rush)

Congrats on a Frenchman wearing the yellow jersey and another winning Stage 10 on the Tour de France on Bastille Day. Seems a propos.

16. As person who is Irish
I'd like to give a salute to all nations who have stormed the (insert castle.stronghold.fort of choice) and fought for the rights of the common people.

History certain proves the Irish suffered many invasions and were one of the few able to send the vikings packing.

19. Robespierre, Danton....
Thank you so much for that great quote seemslikeadream. The other frenchmen here can bash me I don't mind, even if Robespierre "l'Incorruptible"("The Untouchable") is unfortunately considered as "the bad guy" he is my favorite. He is the spirit of the Revolution, he was a great man. Consider me as an extremist if you want, I'm a robespierrist. I really encourage all of you to study Robespierre. Forget the clichés, read from him, read serious unbiased book about him or the french Revolution, make your own mind about that man, you will not regret it.
