6. Obama's gonna have his hands full with Ditka

First things first. I hope his campaign is taking the Ditka challenge more seriously than most people here at DU are. This race is a toss up right now and it will be Obama Who? if he he doesn't beat Ditka.

There hasn't been any polling yet with Ditka in the race, and Obama was well ahead against Ryan the last time I checked.

10. Ryan was an unknown - Ditka starts with a higher name ID

than Obama has, even though Barack has been campaigning for months. Without raising or spending a dime, making one speech or appearnace Ditka starts with virtually 100% name recognition. To many he is a hero and the fact that he knows nothing about the issues will not matter one bit. He has the white male vote locked up (and that includes union types). If he can credibly remember the boilerplate BS lines that Rove writes for him and can keep his temper in check he is a real threat to win that seat. I guarantee he is within 10 points of Obama when the first polls come out (in any event he will be much closer than Ryan who trailed by what 30-40 points?). He will get lots on national GOP $$ so that won't be a problem. I'm very concerned that this seat has been lost. The media will be going ga-ga over this.
