The Freepers fool a company into thinking that they are representative of a majority opinion yet again...

Slim-Fast Sheds Whoopi Goldberg After Bush Riff

20 minutes ago Add Entertainment - Reuters to My Yahoo!

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Comedian Whoopi Goldberg (news) will no longer appear in ads for diet aid maker Slim-Fast following her lewd riff on President Bush (news - web sites)'s name at a fund-raiser last week, the company said on Wednesday.

Florida-based Slim-Fast said it was "disappointed" in Goldberg's remarks at last Thursday's $7.5 million star-studded fund-raiser at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

"Ads featuring Ms. Goldberg will no longer be on the air," Slim-Fast General Manager Terry Olson said in a statement, adding that the company regrets that Goldberg's remarks offended some customers.

She has freedom of speech and so do they.

40. Again, agreed.
Like I said in the LBN thread, if Bill Cosby had gotten bounced by Jell-O for some of the things he's said recently, I daresay Pudding Pops would become the offical DU snack.

On the other side, I do have to laugh at Slim-Fast. I mean, what the hell were they thinking hiring her in the first place? Wouldn't you expect something like this was bound to happen?

It's just like Rush when he was hawking orange juice. The owners were shocked, shocked that he was causing so much controversy. Please.

41. Nope. Two standards in Imperial Amerika, now growing grotesque
and Orwellian.

Anyone can say anything about Kerry and no repercussion would be felt.

I so miss living in a Free Country where the double-standard (don't think there has EVER been a human society without one) isn't quite so freakishly huge as Imperial Amerika.

A business fired a spokesperson,that's it.

11. More corporate fuckwads...
Not that I'd ever taste their crap, anyway. I tried it once.. it was laden with sugar and akin to Milk of Magnesia. I find it SOOO ironic that the beer-bellied freepers got a company they'd NEVER patronize to dump a spokesperson.

It is the corporation's right to choose whomever they want to represent them. Insulting Bush was probably not the biggest problem, perhaps it was the genetalia thing. And.. considering none of the losers that flooded Slimfast's corporate entity with complaints even WENT to the gala, nor heard it first hand... the corporation is doing this on hearsay.

Whatever.. crappy products. Stupid corporation.

I live in Canada.

I will only be safe until the U.S.A officially declares war on "old Europe" or the euro.
At which point Canada is toast. I might be also, but as I see it coming I hope to be 2 steps ahead.

That is of course if my personal fight is unsuccesfull in stoping this madness.

I am advocating doing something less akin to hitting your head against a brick wall.

I admire you for your vigilance, I am only trying to stress that we need to be way more proactive
What does sending a letter to Unilever accomplish.. Somebody gets paid to hit the delete button on the emails and the trash for the letters.

Instead take your letter and make 50 copies and leave them on the subway/train/park bench/bookshelf or if you are ballsy, on the actual shelf the product is sold on.

And that is just one way to get people to hear you.

hours from the revolution. Instead I see brave, smart, and motivated people using tools of democracy to fight these obvious Fascists.

Millions of people protested before the Iraq war in "healthy" democracies and Nothing happened. Nothing.

That made me realize that traditional democratic dissent was no longer viable.

Cheers to the resistance!

Based on your recent decision to fire Whoopi Goldberg I will no longer buy your products. This company has obviously bowed to right wing pressure to punish and silence dissent in this very divisive election year. You knew who Whoopi was when you hired her. I will be throwing out all of you products - I not only vote on election day, I vote with my wallet EVERY DAY, as well. You will find out that there are many others like me that will do likewise.

Again, great call canning a comedienne for performing comedy and having a political opinion! God bless America! - Jeb

If everytime on obvious politically motivated thing like this is done, the other side hits back, guess what? - It stops.

Don't ride in the back of the bus, just don't ride.

- In this case, just don't eat. Drink more ice water, maybe with lemon. Take a small snack at breakfast. Have reasonable lunch, with lots of protein, but NO FRENCH FRYS. Spend time making dinner at home, with plenty of vegi's. Avoid having snacks around, and NEVER eat two hours before you plan to go to bed.

Just put it in your basket and then midway through your shopping decide you don't want it anymore and, accidentally relocate it behind a row of Dennison's Extra Thick Extra Hot Chili with fatback gravy. I don't think too many Slim Fast customers will be looking for it there behind the fattening foods.
