'Doonesbury at War' on cover of rolling stone
http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story?id=6298171

i have nothing against trudeau, but let's face it, he's gone soft over the years.

what an unhip choice. they should have put boondocks on there. mcgruder's the most relevant cartoonist today.

or get your war on-but since they give rees a strip in every issue, i guess i can see why they didn't pick him

or tom tomorrow.

but doonesbury? the aging hippies at rolling stone are clinging to the past- sort of like when they automatically give a past their prime 60s singer an automatic five star review. when was the last time you heard somone talk about a recent doonesbury strip?

2. doonsbury
at times brings up relevent issues that even the hallowed John Kerry won't touch. He may be soft, but he's still showing signs of spine. That's more than I can say about the Dem. Platform Committee

3. i give trudeau some credit
but of all the strips for RS to honor with a rare cartoon cover, i can think of several infinitely more qualified candidates than him

4. Like what?
(Not being uppity, really want to know what other cartoons you would rather see)

I can't think of any that have his national promince, importance, message and reputation.

6. I love Boondocks, but think you are not giving Trudeau enough credit...
This past year, and especially recent weeks, it has definitely been on the mark. I think Boondocks is edgier, but Trudeau has been hard-hitting.

5. I think Doonesbury is the best.
He has been hitting them hard forever. I'm not sure which strip you have been reading. He has talked about everything. Cheney, Haliburton, * awol, (he even offered his own money if someone stepped forward who served w/him) WMD's...everything. Trudeau rocks!

I do love Boondocks too.

9. To stay so clever and insightful for so many years deserves recognition.
Maybe RS is rewarding longevity and consistent quality too. I like the other strips too but let's see how they are doing in 15 years. I hope they will have run out of material, because that will mean some BIG cultural and political changes have been made.

8. He blew off BD's leg in Iraq. BD is one of the strip's original crew.
I think he's making some sound artistic/political choices. But Trudeau has always said that the art/entertainment part of the strip comes first.

10. Doonesbury is a classic
it's been around for a long time now. It's more of an institution than Boondocks.

And Get Your War on is never funny. It's a rant with clipart. You can argue that the issue of war is not a funny one, but in order to be satirical you can't be so heavy handed.

11. But Trudeau is the one that offered a reward for
anybody who could remember serving time with bush in that air national guard unit..that he was suppose to have been in.

12. Wow, an aside--Trudeau went to Yale with Howard Dean
(actually knew him from boyhood) and served in a freshman social committee with George Bush. This looks like an interesting article. I think you misunderestimated Gary, Miss ann.
