2. He knows a losing team when he sees one.
Dikka doesn't want to play a game he can't win.

3. In my humble opinion
he had about.0001% chance to win anyway. Not all Illinoisans are Bear fans, and Illinois is a hugely Democratic state.

7. Even if he ran and lost, just having him in would demean the entire...
...process.

Obama seems like a really decent guy and to have to run against a joke celeberity hot head would have demeaned Obama, ditka, the voters, and the entire process. I'm surprised the Republicans wouldn't run him to do that, even if they knew their party was a sinking ship...you know, just out of contempt to make Obama seem smaller.

10. Illinois Republicans have been demeaning the entire process for years now
Licenses for bribes, widespread indictments and convictions, hell, a lot of the heavy hitters of the Illinois Repub party are in jail these days. I should be surprised that they'd stoop so low as to recruit Ditka, but I'm not.

They want someone who will spend their own money, since they're pretty sure whomever they run against Obama is going to lose anyway, and they don't want to throw money away by running a legitimate candidate against him. Quite a few folks have already declined the honor, if you know what I mean. ;-)

8. It sure would have been great to watch him spend alot of his own money
to realize people don't love him as much as he thinks they love him!

Damn! That would have been fun!

11. CHICAGO is relatively Democratic and that
is primarily the city. The suburbs and downstate Illinois are Republican. Ditka might do well with celebrity obsessed Bears fans and downstaters. I think he'd have a chance to win, unfortunately.

5. His wife does not want him to run
She's been pretty vocal about it. I'm guessing she had the final say after all.
